Thread regarding Ford layoffs

This is not good for us

If Ford is now in the process of closing plants and laying off people in countries that have much cheaper production costs than we do here, what do you think is going to happen to us? I think we are looking at another major round of layoffs right here in the U.S. very soon.

Yeah I don't buy it, Brazil was not making money and the vehicles built there didn't really export much. Ford pushed for incentives to keep the doors open in Brazils factories but Bolsonaro told them to shove off. If anything this could increase the push for more production on vehicles going to SA Which will keep our prod lines busy and therefore keep jobs in the US

Not necessarily. Profitability in South America is almost a pure currency play, and Ford has made money in those markets as many times as it has lost. This is something the Company needed to do long ago.

The Edge ending production was gonna mean the closure of the last Canadian assembly plant. But the governments of Canada and Ontario have offered $400 million for the assembly plant to stay open.

Canada is that too expensive now to manufacture because the province of Ontario adopted the Green New Deal 15 years back, and as a result the utility bills are some of the highest in the world.

Hence the need to pay the manufacturing companies to stay.

The latest plants announced for closing this year were located in Brazil. interesting to see what Ford does with the transmission plant in Mexico? The only market they supply to is Brazil! Last year it was Europe that Ford announced pants closings (not sure of that status). With the Edge cut out interesting to see what goes into Canada?
When the economy is good the total NA market is 17mn units... The BG3 do not have the market share they had back in the1950s 0r 60s. When there was no competition. With EVs coming on board you may see further cuts in the engine plants . with EVs you are looking at a 30-40% reduction in UAW workforce.

The trucks have to be made in a NAFTA country because of the chicken tax.

But with Trump out, the pressure to manufacture locally is less.

Canada is paying $400 million not to shutdown its last Assembly plant in Canada.

The plant was to shutdown after the Edge stopped production.

Is FOMOCO anything like BOHICA?

You can kiss FOMOCO bye bye by 4Q 2022. Why do you think suppliers want to get back their tooling investments in 2-3 years after launch?
