Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Why wait until Feb 15?

If the shareholder vote is going to occur tomorrow then why wait another month to implement the changes that have most likely already been decided at this point?

Lower 48 has been pretty tight lipped regarding information and no signs indicate that will change prior to Feb 15.

1vni+18Usmyjr... Supervisors have zero power and directors barely have any. Directors aren't even getting to select who they want working for them. They provide a shortlist of names and the higher powers select one person that short list. Your thought process may have been true in the past layoffs / reorg, but this one is quite different!

@2zjh+18Usmyjr - I couldn't agree with you more on the fabrication new roles and organizations the have proven to be a total waste of time and money. Now we're seeing Evolve create capability areas and technical capabilities that make no sense give the lack of activity that occurs in those area. Maybe like you said... they're being created for "friends".

Historically, 80% of the time is spent defending the existence of current leadership roles, and if necessary, fabricating new roles for "friends." The remaining 20% of the time is spent on the fate of the rank and file.

The org chart boxes will be completed this week. People placement starts next week and will be final come Feb 4th then needs ELT approval and HR time to do the paperwork. Remember can’t plan/talk on the Concho people side until after the acquisition is approved.

Because that's when the layoffs are happening. Addl management levels will get announced next week or the week after, and then everyone else below them gets to wait another 2 weeks to know their fate.

It is the only real power the ELT and our supervisors have; to withhold information that everyone wants to have and needs to know about. Information that severed employees know how many more checks they are going to receive, available start date for a new job or unemployment, etc. Information that will let us get on with our lives.
