Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Job market and 50+ employees

Are there any other employees age 50+ who were let go by AS who are finding it extremely difficult to get another job? I don’t know if it’s because the job market is so saturated due to the pandemic or if it’s because of age, but I've had no luck so far. Can anyone share what they’ve experienced?

The problem isn't age alone, it's salary. There are lower paying jobs out there but it's tough to take when you're over 50, looking to maximize another 401K for retirement and the salary is 20K or more a year less than what you are making now. It's a reality but one that is not very promising.

They really got a double whammy losing the 401K contributions going forward and now facing the prospect of little chance of getting the same. It's a tough situation I would say those with some good transferralbe skills (particularly IT and/or online skills) have the best chances but the outlook isn't good. I think you have to look outside the box and espeically outside the insurance industry. It's has too much of a ceiling on it between shareholders, Departments of Insurance etc. It's a loser of an industry for long term employment in my opinion.

I’ve applied for 15-20 jobs. I’ve had 11 interviews to get to the end and tell me I’m overqualified. I think they read the number of years working at the Hell Hole Allstate and don’t want to discuss salary.

  1. 5 decades former outside auto, pushed out the door using the UN process. I came from the collision repair industry when Allstate recruited me for the CCPR initiative mid 90's. After I left took a well deserved mental health break for about 2 months then got hired rather easily at a collision repair shop that was a large player in the Allstate DRP program. It has been a good fit shop glad to have someone with the claim background. Way less money and benefits but way less stress and hours. Will survive ok until I can retire for good. Hard to describe the mental and physical relief once you get away from the chaos.

All kinds of low to mid paying jobs. Hard to start over after 30 loyal years. I think they will cut most US employment, and place the company for sale. This is just the start. Glad to be gone. No more waking up nights or the dreaded Sunday afternoon gloomy feeling knowing you were going to get your a– kicked with new claims on Monday and the complaining customers. You do not have to wring your hands because of a Horribly acting CSL that actually has little to zero power over you or anything. Life is good now!

I’ve done google searches and frequented job sites like indeed , but can’t find many adjuster jobs . It’s a bad time to be looking during the pandemic. The good news is that everyone needs insurance.
