Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Is there this many blowhards in every company/industry?

Maybe it is just big company dynamics, those who yell the loudest get the most attention. I have never had a conversation where someone let me finish at Intel, I have never met a suitable mentor at Intel, never met someone I would ever hang out outside work. It feels like permanent high school, but worse.

A big part of the problem is the symbiotic relationship between a self-serving manager and his/her chosen (yet often mediocre) favorite. The favorite benefits from the manager soliciting 360 input from only their friend network, carefully avoiding any legitimate critics. And not surprisingly, the
favorite stays under the same manager for years. The manager benefits from being perceived by his/her superiors as a good mentor and talent-cultivator. Each provides cover for the other as they bootstrap their mediocrity up the food chain. IT has seen a sadly high number of these toxic duos.

some Sr fellows, fellows have domain expertise equivalent to a junior product manager in other companies. Very light weight. A lot of failures have been promoted to sr technical positions due to their political connections and network. Not based on real accomplishments or even technical expertise.
There are too many people talking out of their asses. It is hard to sit in meetings and listen to these bozos making mundane, cliche statements.

I worked with number of horrible folks who were legends in their own minds. Most of them had/have minions. Definite blowhards. Very hard to work with.

Literally the most toxic place I’ve ever seen, where basic facts get ignored to listen to the loudest/obnoxious/toxic/narcissistic person in the room. Sheep will follow sheep. I sincerely regret having the Intel title on my resume, given the severe lack of career growth (doing the same sh– for over 1 year) because I haven’t invested time brown nosing. At least, come spring time I’ll smell the flowers without literal sh– clogged up my nostrils.

I quit after 1 year for greener pastures and it was one of the best decisions of my life no doubt about it. If you can make it out I highly recommend it.
