Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Google Workers form a Union

Intel will face layoffs and if the legit Intel employees, (i.e. BB employees) want to protect their futures then they should get busy and do the same thing at all Intel locations.

The rankings of the top 50 manufacturing companies in the USA have a unionization rate of >60%. Whereas the average rate of unionization of all manufacturing companies in the USA is about 9%. Many diversified companies have unions and are extremely successful. The unions force corporations to partner with the workforce versus treating workers and employees as just a number. It is almost a guarantee that Intel is facing big problems in 2021 and beyond and a union will simply give the employees (all employees) a proper voice.

Unions work in manufacturing environments where employees are similar in skill set and responsibilities. Immediate effect will be to give everybody generally the same wages. As soon as the union decides to have a strike to flex its muscles, the company will start sending production overseas. End result: a legal layoff with eventual shutdown of fab(s) in the States.
If you have skills and don't like working for Intel, move on and gift your skills and work ethic to some other company. Unions are for people that can't contribute something unique and valuable to an otherwise captive employer.

"A 1900’s solution isn’t the answer in 2021." Do you mean firing employees en masse simply to reduce short term cost and ignore the root cause of Intel's problems? That is what Intel has been doing for decades and it has not worked at all. I agree, that is a 1900's solution. Intel HR has ruined one of the greatest companies in world history. Good luck. I think Intel needs a union to give employees a voice. Otherwise nothing will change.

If you're unlawfully fired and you have a case, any competent lawyer will represent you on contingency. So, no, no need to pay 1% of your earnings year after year to have some "union representative" represent you in the event you happen to be unlawfully sacked.

If TMG workers unionize, management will simply accelerate outsourcing to TSMC. It’s a horrible idea and we should be grateful for our jobs as long as we can keep them.

If I hire an attorney to represent me after Intel illegally fires me with little or no separation package that will cost a heck of a lot more than 1% of my salary. It will cost more in the range of 25 - 50K to represent me in even the most basic legal actions (i.e. discrimination, retaliation, illegal termination etc...). Any everyone that works at Intel knows how untrustworthy Intel is...

Intel is like auto industry now so I would not be surprised if they become unionized.

Just what Intel needs, even more institutional resistance to change.

According to the news, the 200 Google employees and contractors now unionized will pay 1% of their total compensation to the union. Do you want to pay 1% of your total compensation to support your union leaders with lavish salaries (for them)?

Intel employees are already in a very bad situation and it is getting worse. Who represents us now? Not direct managers and certainly not executives...

It appears that somebody is a crazy dooky. This is the worst idea I have ever heard. Unions take all your money and don't represent the common worker. Very bad situation.
