Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Looking back being laid off was a blessing

After hearing and seeing what Allstate has even further devolved to I feel fortunate to have been laid off in October. I saw this coming a a few years ago and in foresight was able to save up several months of pay in advance on top of several months severance . Having a holiday season stress free from that horrible place and enjoying it and life in general with good family and friends without worry and stress has been so refreshing. My kids and family even said I am a totally different person and for the better. I actually feel for the people still there. Friends and peers that remain in different areas say it is so much worse now and they feel so defeated and depressed. No one deserves to put up with that mess. I was very upset when I first got the word bit in hindsight it is the best thing that could have happened to me.

What other choice did you have? You had to accept it.

I too am enjoying my stress-free life! Looking back, I honestly don’t know how I put up with that company for as long as I did. I’m glad my first manager (back in the day when they actually cared about their employees) kept riding me about contributing as much as I could into my 401(k), then pushed me to add more. That’s what’s allowing me to sleep at night now. I’ll probably go back to work doing something after I pack up my house and move south, but for now, I’m enjoying the much needed time off. I don’t dread Sunday nights anymore - my stomach in knots waiting for Monday morning to arrive - and the inevitable he!! that was sure to greet me for the next 5 days. Thank goodness it’s all rear view mirror now. Onward and upwards! There IS life after Allstate!

I agree entirely with the OP. I have stayed in touch with my old Co-workers and it sounds horrible with workloads and even more CI (yuck).

In the meantime, severance and unemployment. Then the government keeps raining cash on us. I saw this coming also, and cut expenses and increased savings.

I concur with OP 100%. I too saw writing on the wall and saved for such a time. It has been a rejuvenating experience getting let go. I have my life, health, and low blood pressure back. I have been set free and strongly recommend it to SIU and claim employees to get out before you physically die

Cool story bro, but 99% of those laid off have bills to pay and no money coming in, doesn’t exactly make for a merry Xmas boyo
