Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

North Platte shop

Haven’t heard of any layoffs lately. So are we done with the target number of machinist to be furloughed. Will they ever call some if us brothers back to work. Has been slow lately then busy and then call OT. Does anyone else think we are safe now i mean its already end of year and our shop still hasn’t got hit yet. Please be serious here.

If you're smart, you would not go back to Bailey Yards if they called you back. Bailey Yards and North Platte is a dumpster fire. Get out while you can. But I'm sure you are like most Bailey Yards railroaders who are in debt over their eyes, with the new house, new truck, and all the toys.
Be smart and move to Texas where all the action is, that is if you can hold your position in the company. Texas has lots of better companies moving there that will provide a much better living and less stress for you and your family.

If you were a true railroader you would buy a new toy hauler to put behind that truck a couple rzrs and a boat for behind the toyhauler.

If your truly are a railroader , you never feel safe. This place is a backstabbin , cut throatin , snitching, environment. And i am being serious.

Railroad employment is never safe. It is a ruthless business and always has been. This stuff has gone on long before it was called PSR. We're just in a difficult part of the cycle right now. In a few years those of us who hang tough will be explaining to the new employees about why we have such bad attitudes. They'll go out and buy fancy new trucks and act like they've been railroading for 20 years after a year or two and whine about having to do difficult work and cry about not getting holidays off. It's all the same. It never ends.

If it makes you feel better, then yes the layoffs are over. The rest of us know the layoffs are not done, so we're going to stay prepared.

You’re totally safe and I suggest you go out and buy a new truck.

Really depends on 2021 and carloadings. I think there’s more cuts to come but who knows where. The bigger places are probably safer then the smaller locations.
