There is more and more talk about January layoffs, but hardly any of my colleagues know anything about it. I saw that someone already asked about this in one of the posts but there was no answer. Hope you don't mind me starting a new thread, but I am very interested if any of you have a more detailed insight regarding any specific teams facing cuts at the end of January?

I would not expect your IT friend to know anything about mass layoffs here. They generally give people 2 months on the payroll before they term and close accounts. That's been the norm for the past few years. Hopefully, everyone gets 2 months of job search on the payroll and 2 weeks for every year up to some max. Last April (2020) it was a max of 26 weeks, but I heard it was higher in the November round.
Unfortunately this is not fake news. There are numerous people affected today and most likely happening throughout the week.
Fake news! My friend in IT and haven't heard any news. He is the one that deals with disabling accounts.
So bloodbath in preparation for fiscal year end has started?
All regions are affected
"just got whacked today - guerilla warfare style layoffs" West Coast / East Coast? where ?
Is this happening individually or mass layoffs like last time?
just got whacked today - guerilla warfare style layoffs
One could only imagine if Hitachi Vantara were to become a publicly traded company what the Short Interest would look like.
What groups and when?
Death by 1000 cuts.
Any news?
No all hands, meetings or anything next week for GSC
DIBU here. No all hands scheduled for me.
I did not got an invite for an all-hands. What day/unit is this supposed to be for
they did not cancel the "all hands" meeting. They just moved it up a day. WOW!
The cancellation of the All Hands con call is NOT a good sign. If this was to be a positive/upbeat call, you would want to get it out as soon as possible to your people. There is obviously something wrong with the message they want to convey to us hence the pause. When this happens, it only fuels the rumor fire within the company as well to our customers. My guess is that an announcement will be made next Tuesday the 26th.
All hands was canceled so what does that imply? 🤔
Given the scheduled all hands, high likelihood of some changes next Monday/Tuesday.
No impact in HYDERABAD, India!!
I think everything is speculation at the moment. But given historical trends of how the company has been it should be late this month we should hear about the layoffs.
I’m in GSC, haven’t heard of anything. No meetings next week or rumors. Is anyone certain there will be cuts next week or is it only speculation?
Hitachi has already reduced 900 subsidiaries down to 500. They need the cash now to buy new companies and don’t have the patience to innovate from within.
Hitachi is focusing its business on what it calls “Social Innovation” – the Internet of Things and social infrastructure. That being said doesn’t mean that Hitachi Vantara is safe from a sell off. In fact, there has been some subsidiaries that rather being sold off by the mothership were able to find their own suitors. This company is not in it for the long run no matter what happens.
Really? You don't know who the 'new company' will be? COGNIZANT is going to acquisition what's left or one of their subsidiaries. They acquisitioned a half dozen IoT, data analytics companies last year. Same MO....look it up....
Fantastic! Raises were given but not everyone got one and didn't even know they didn't get one! Well that sows bad seed I would think: smh
What is this ‘new company’ some are referring to here? Does anyone know anything concrete? Anyone on NDA?
RK is the new or newer "head of product" yes, SHE has scheduled 'all hands on' for 26th
Raisers were already given out for 2020/early 2021. Who is rk
RK scheduled an all-hands on the 26th so I imagine any resource actions would be prior to that so survivors can be promised raises (I have a vague recollection of that happening last time, or am I imagining that?)
The comment two post below makes sense for a sale as well with the 40% reduction. Rip the bandage off so the new company doesn't have to lay them off and given they keep bringing in the same people from the same company I think we all know which company they are positioning the sale too...
There's rumours that the next round starts next week. Can anyone confirm this or give any more insight?
The quiet before the storm....
Agreed on the fact that the company is positioning for it's self for sale. The last thing a buying company wants is blood on their hands. I would almost assume a deal has been made and that they are letting people go to meet contract requirements. Hitachi has sold a few companies in the last 12 months. HV continues to bleed them dry even though the company did meet sales goals for Q3.
or divestiture of some parts or a slimming in anticipation of some merger/acquisition.
4000 more ? sounds like company is for sale with those numbers.
Correct Most talent was let go because they were too expensive and the remaining talent left on their own. GFK has destroyed this company and the remaining/new GFK hires are doomed. (You know what the F is for).
Goal is 40% staff reduction. Per other posts...4,000 people.
All the talented already left the company or let go. HV is only focussed on reducing costs, so i don't think they are going to hire smart people to turn the company. My guess by end of 2021 they will layoff another 4000 people.
Someone earlier with HR buddies mentioned last week of January. Is it still valid?
Also, due to fiscal year end in Mar, I would imagine some activities will occur (not to be a Debbie Downer).
At this point I think everyone is
