If you've actually had to clean a soda fountain you wouldn't ever think it's sad that they aren't back. Look up biofilm and soda fountains, then bring your own filtered water forever.

At this stage of the game . LP is useless. They have no idea on how to promote , expanded or make any business profitable. If they did they would not be working for LP wages. They are not qualified to make any kind of business decision. They are the equivalent to the keystone cops.

Initially loss prevention was deprived of funding and positions were slashed for years. So the failure to return to profitability was not our fault. Only in the past year have we become the department with the most resources and our range of authority has been expanded.

There is a small format Kmart store in Brooklyn NY. Since it is the only one of its kind, I guess it did not do too well to compete against Dollar General / Family Dollar and therefore the idea was abandoned.

"All Eddie Lambert needs to do is open up small format Kmart stores to compete with Dollar General and he will turn things around."

So...Kresge's?

I've said it before, the Dollar General/Family Dollar model is very much like what Kresge's used to be. Except for the missing soda fountain, sadly.

Any Sears and KMart stores still open is a dead horse in and of itself at this point meaning Eddie himself is beating a dead horse.

Please don't make us drag out that dead horse to beat it some more on why he is dragging things out

What makes no sense is why Eddie is dragging out the whole process of closing things down.

It is clear that a comeback is not going to happen, and the company is bleeding money as it has been for a number of years now, so what is the point of keeping things open at this point?

I think 2021 will be the year they turn things around. All Eddie Lambert needs to do is open up small format Kmart stores to compete with Dollar General and he will turn things around.

This discussion is well and good but we have it quite often. What would be great is to find out when they are definitely all ending. And when will they switch over to 100% online only?

2021 could be the year; then again, it might not. This guessing game has become an annual tradition. You never know what ol' Eddie has up his sleeve.

It will most certainly be the end for Sears & Kmart there is no way they can survive with the number of locations they have left I would not be surprised if there is a big announcement right after the new year for these stores

I am disappointed in LP's performance over the years. They failed to return the company to profitability and forced the owner to post all of the remaining stores for sale/lease. Though Hometown stores are not specifically listed, I am sure he is trying to sell them off again as a whole unit since they are treated as a separate company since the repurchase.

The efforts of loss prevention will more than satisfy filling in the budget shortfall needed to save our great, well-sticked, clean, and friendly stores.

It’s definitely over. There is no way to operate any type of profitable distribution model with how all of the stores are located. There is also no chance at providing consistency across the stores. So, even if they were to purchase new merchandise... distributing it would eat in to the margin so much that it would be pointless.
