Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Black Friday - Dead Quiet

So here we stand. Black Friday. 7 people waiting when we opened. We've done less than 1k in sales.

It's over, folks.

and I can think of several reasons why it is not a good idea for the person who is planning to retire to let the company know so early.....if you have put in your retirement papers, and then the store closes or they start laying off people with severance you will not get a severance package if you have already submitted your retirement!! Just keep this information to yourself for a while longer

Yeah, our store was super busy, too. It just wasn't busy when we opened and didn't start getting busy til after 12pm (both Friday and today, Saturday). I am in a growth store, so I wonder if the smaller doors are the ones hurting.

Of course, it was not as busy as previous years, but crowded enough that it's freaking me out and now I want to get a covid test just as a precaution.

S FLORIDA store here. No one at 5am! Traffic picked up around 11 for all the $7.99 housewares specials. Lasted a couple of hours and died down a bit. Not much traffic in other areas. Definitely slower than expected but mid day we were maybe halfway to plan. Not sure what our evening traffic was but opening at 5 really served no purpose.

Wow. We were extremely busy in my store in the Las Vegas area. We started to slow down around 9pm. We made plan early and far exceeded our credit goal of 80.

I meant outdoor outlet malls were really busy in Southern California.

The Southern California outdoor malls were really busy. The regular indoor malls not so much.

To the employee who posted they are looking forward to retiring in 8 months.....congratulations.....have you notified HR or the appropriate people in writing about your tentative retirement date? It would not hurt to begin a paper trail of your retirement intentions by the end of the year. I can think of several reasons why this would be a very good thing to do. Good luck.

Wow, don't know what happened in your markets but we were slammed all day. Not enough people due to call outs. We had the days plan in by 6pm. Crowds hit about 10am.

Only picks we did were for the cheap c-ap. Nothing you could make any margins on. In other words, they were losing money for every package that went out the door. Macy's has become the ultimate junk store. Plus, like another posted said, they started sending people home – I mean, in all my years here I've NEVER seen that on Black Friday. Usually we are begging people to stay and pick up more hours.

I'm glad I only have 8 months until I can retire and say "buh bye" to this place. I used to love working here when it was May Company – but now, I don't recognize the place anymore. It's nothing like it was back in the May days.

Worked 5 to 2 and there was no one waiting to get in at 5. Dead most of the morning until around noon and then some foot traffic but not much. Did fulfillment all day but we even caught up with all the picks by 2. Then people were just packing. Pretty amazing to realize this was a Black Friday. Probably more in the red!!!

What was with the late announcement to NOT ship out 7.99 rebates for fulfillment? Our team had to go in and cancel so many orders.

By mid day, our managers were sending people home. After all that shiit about forcing people to work Black Friday, c'mon now, let the people work for crying out loud.

Not one soul at the doors when we opened. Not one. A little busier than a usual Friday, but NOTHING like previous years.
