Thread regarding Ford layoffs

With so many self-directed employees effectively contributing from home, have we reached a post-supervisory era at Ford?

Will the supervisor position be eliminated in the near future?

@7iza Good idea, but the decision makers are the ones that created the processes and promoted all the little piggies. I made the mistake of pointing out several processes that werent value-add and I was shouted down like I was the guy stealing lollipops from kids. Huge mistake on my part.

I can hear the management and process drones squealing like little piggies because they all know they are unemployable outside of Fords bloated internal processes.
OP is right. Get rid of the top-heavy management / process management stratum. Then get some decent frontline workers or better yet support the ones you have.

Yeah everytime they cut LL, they add back more than was cut.
They have all these illusions of reduction by having dotted line reporting structures. In theory I report to 3 LL6. This was done to make it appear that each of the LL6 have more people reporting to them, and ditto on the LL5 level.

On the last reduction there were multiple newly minted LL5 and LL6 before and after the staff reductions. None of which were needed. The newly minted were on the friends and family plan.

In theory LL6s should provide a benefit. It should be someone who understands enough about the responsibilities of their direct reports that they can help with problems and issues. They should know how to do the actual work for which their team is responsible. In practice people like this are promoted but then moved and given responsibility for work they know nothing about. In addition they are given so many “special assignments” (PowerPoints, spreadsheets, committees...) that they have little time to learn deep details about their team’s responsibilities. It doesn’t take long before a knowledgeable and competent person becomes an admin assistant who does not have the respect of the team they “lead”.

They have been cutting management layers for years, as that is where the big money is at - not at GSR layers.

Issue is not cutting the LL’s, the issue is they always seem to add them back a year or less later after they cut a bunch, so it seems that the issue never changed cause it doesn’t.

Why yes we have. The virtual office could be anywhere on the planet. Look for this to evolve as necessary to provide a balance to the people of the world. Break down borders they are wrong. Someone once compare a country’s borders with a cells membrane. The membrane/border protects the cell from invaders. But wait I didn’t mean that ah we have to open our borders it’s the right thing to do. Me thinks the ronna feels the same way. I deserve access to the cell. Thinkforyourself

The LL6's ive run into have been timesheet approvers, pr writers, and spreadsheet generators. I have not seen one who knew the business and made decisions that benefited the company. My solution? Make every one of them have at least 50 direct reports or they revert back to GSR. Every LL5 has to have at least 25 LL6's. This way the useless ones get put on notice that their rektumlips are no longer required.

The LL6 level is essentially useless it has been so perverted by incompetent, backstabbing brown nosers. Very few add any value or have the subject matter expertise to actually help those under them. They spend all their time wandering around looking for credit stealing opportunities in order to work on getting LL5. Ford could easily eliminate both the LL6 and LL5 level and make a very few carefully screened people a team lead. These people would have actual, qualifiable skills who then would be responsible to ensure those on their teams were trained up and successful. The team lead would be accountable for this...not how well they kissed a$$ or played office politics. If their team fails, they fail and are demoted and replaced if not removed from the company if their failure was especially damaging to the company.

Our LL6 could be replaced by an admin assistant and there would be no drop in group output or quality.
