Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Whoever creates goto/Specify should be fired!

Why waste money migrating from a perfectly-working standard repository (EMEPS) to a c-appy Specify

Garbage? Specify is a much better system than what was there previously.

Maybe letting interns create things and managers taking the credit is one of the many reasons we cannot seem to maintain anything when they leave.

The Specify leadership has driven out multiple employees and contractors during the many years it’s been in development, and the former EMEPS admins made that system so bad that they were able to sustain entire careers supporting that garbage.

@1bjf+186kPp0p good point. Another talented developer that made a similar tool recently left for a tech company as well. It’s almost like we aren’t good at retaining technical talent.

Speaking of the company's GoTo function on the web.
This was designed 5 or so years ago by a young EMIT fellow.
He stayed about 2 years with company. Smart kid.

His manager of course took all the credit - and still does!

From my point of view Specify is a step in the right direction if used properly. The issue I see is many people responsible for creating project Specifications from GPS don’t have the knowledge required to evaluate which requirements are needed for a given project and add in a healthy dose of CYA and the result is a higher cost specification than is required. That being said while higher cost equipment isn’t helping I place the blame for our current situation on the investment decisions made by management.
