Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Hard to be positive

With all the cuts that happened it’s difficult to remain positive and it’s even more disheartening to watch my coworkers that were impacted. Two of these are colleagues that I’ve worked side by side with for years and who I am not afraid to admit have far more experience and knowledge than I do. It’s becoming more and more apparent that such things are not valued at TR.

If it's not based on performance, did a lottery happen? Were straws drawn? Randomizer?

But for those folks that remain, remember your efforts will not be appreciated. No matter how hard you work or how well you do, it won't matter, if it's your time there is nothing you can do. HR cannot dispute this, during these RIF's they continually say it's not about performance, so if they try to say perform well and you will be fine, they are just plain lying. It is very difficult working for a company that does not act with integrity and honestly I don't think this is at the highest levels of the organization, I think this is right at the senior segment level, where they have as much autonomy as they need to sell these decisions to HR. Now HR is another question and the biggest running joke in all of TR. Bring them a confidential issue and watch how fast it is widely known.

Two years ago this week, I was part of the RIF.

Within 2 months, I found a job with more money – both base and generous bonus, even during the pandemic. I have a boss that lets me actually manage my own assigned portfolio of work. A smaller company, I have direct access to a CEO who tells me "you're doing a wonderful job" and recongizes the intangible value of relationships.

All in all - worked out great for me. So for all of you talented TR (former) colleagues - you are ready for this.

What can't be seen by management, can't be worried about.

Are you not remote? In my mind, it’s easier for many this year because they’re not having to finish out whatever time they have left coming into the office.
