Heard some folks were told by HR last week that severance was retracted for some since their old roles were reposted and available and that they needed to re-apply for returning. This seems completely wrong and contrary to the information (although a lot of it vague and inconsistent) we were all told originally. I have only seen and heard that payout of severance was badly delayed due to layoffs in those areas and that there was no set time of when severance would be paid out and that some areas are receiving their severance benefits much sooner than other areas that have been waiting longer.

I work in an area where many were laid off, and about 2 weeks after layoff notices were given jobs were posted for the exact same roles and no one was told they had to reapply so if someone was told they needed to they are not correct.
The friends of mine that signed their layoff notification were told it would be paid within 60 days of them leaving, NOT within 60 days of signing the paperwork.
Oooh I recorded that speech from HR....
If only our severance was on the same strict timeframe and schedule as TW, EB, and GS's fat bonuses they are getting for all the cost savings of this RIF.
Where is my money?
Well said @1Iqw. We were told this also. So poorly handled by this now crumbling company. I already have the ball rolling on my end as I have zero faith in Allstate living up to their obligations.
All I know is the impacted people in my affected area were either outright lied to or at the least accidentally misinformed. We were clearly told that the sooner we esigned our severance package agreement the sooner our severance would be paid out. We were told that even though the contract signed by both parties requires severance to be paid out within 60 days if your final date that it would be deposited within 60 days of your signature. This was specifically said to be due to some states do not pay out unemployment if companies offer severance and to get the money to us as soon as our final check from the company is done so there is little time with no money coming in and to prevent any further hardship that would result from these actions that are no fault of our own. I have 60+ people that were told and heard this same thing
Yes, the severance documentation that Allstate agreed to does say within 60 days of your last date with the company. However we were verbally misinformed and provided incorrect expectations. Allstate has poorly handled this and I know several people that are now in bad financial places based on this situation around the holidays in the middle of a global pandemic. Rest assured that if on the 61st day after my final day if my severance is not in my account that I and others will be looking at all legal options against the company available to us including punitive damages and mental anguish. And no this does not fall under the arbitration agreement that we were forced to sign under threats of our job and duress as that did not cover breach of contract after a RIF. Get us our money Allstate or you will be paying a lot more than severance!
