Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Layoffs

So if oil price recovers somewhat to 45-50 $/bbl would Oxy still have layoffs? Seems like they have way too many people for the business even at higher oil prices.

When money is being spend it needs approval AFE literally stands for authorization for expenditure. All AFEs did not need the CEOs approval at APC it was based upon the amount of money being spent. The more the money the higher the level of approval. Some could be approved by your next level supervisor dome had to go to the executive level.

What you describe is how a small company operates with the top person approving every AFE, no matter the size. It is better to push the approvals down to the appropriate levels in the organization.

Not sure why LAPC GOM employees feel that OXY management are control freaks when at APC practically everything had to be reviewed and approved by RAW. Remember all those memos prepared for the EC to get approval for a project or an AFE? LAPC GM’s, VPs, and SVPs were not empowered to make any decisions without RAW’s blessing.

LAPC was probably not used to operating like a big oil company like LOXY people were. In a big oil company there is a lot of micromanagement of the details and little input from the lower level employees once plans are set in motion. Obviously subject to safety and legal considerations of operating the company assets (everyone has the authority to stop a job if it is unsafe or illegal). It is just a different culture between the two companies and people from either camp cannot be faulted. It is important for all to realize the common goal of making money safely and work towards that.

Not sure if you’re serious or sarcastic - depends on LOXY or LAPC perspective.

It might be a loss, but the GOM could thrive if let out from under their soul crushing narcissism, micromanagement and control freak nature.

A majority of GOM would leave tomorrow if the job market were better. It will be a bloodbath when the market does pick up. I’d waive CoC and volunteer for a lesser VSP in a heartbeat.

That would be a terrible loss to the company to get rid of those guys.

We are already having layoffs. To many people for available positions. It happened this week and earlier in the month as well.

Oxy could make the GOM great again if they recalled KD and AK

Inpats can be sent back to their country and expats can be recalled. You generally cannot lay-off national staff in a foreign country very easily and maintain a contract. With US employees anything can happen with employment at will. They should focus on what is needed for business and not their image. People will always work for them if they want work.

An 'impat' is probably an 'inpat' spelled incorrectly ...

Yes, we should layoff more a lot more...Too many impats and expats. Too many people doing nothing. And VH is celebrating stock went from $11 to $13 wow 20%....For each share I made $2....oh but I just lost $70 per share as the stock was $80 in 2018 when I bought it...All under her...does she have shame? She should quit and return all money to employees.
