Age seems to have become a liability at Allstate. The older you get, the longer you've been here, the better your chances of being shown the door in the next layoffs round. Isn't it sad that instead of being confident that my job is safe because I've been here for nearly three decades, I'm constantly on the lookout for a new job since I know my days here are numbered?

Yes its a sad fact that ALL corporate America has operated this way for at least the last 20 years or more. This ideal or practice is unfortunately becoming mainstream in all aspects of society. Where people 50 or older are being discriminated against, left out, ignored and really down right ridiculed and looked as of lesser importance in everyway possible. The world is increasingly focusing all its attention on the younger population. Kind of scary what is happening.
I remember when I started 15 yrs ago and before they laid me off, I was discussing the low c-appy pay with my CSL at the time and the fact that all the senior people would get all holidays off back when seniority counted and I was told well that's the payoff you get for longevity here at Allstate. Then when I reach a point where my seniority should mean something they change the rules to seniority doesnt matter, they cut my 5 days of addnl pto for 15 yrs that was promised to me and when my salary got to a point where I could actually start and support a family with my spouse also bringing in an income mind you... I get the boot. So yea i hear ya OP. Ridiculously hypocritical and greedy, but typical, corporation.
