Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

More competitive?

So, the idea is that Allstate intends to become more competitive. That means the product should be better than the competition and cheaper. But thus far I have seen no price reductions and they’re asking employees to do more with less.

As for the covid paybacks, I have read lots of feedback about this. Customers state they received a small amount (less than $50). However their policy increased by that amount and more at renewal. This has enraged customers. Rightfully so.

The place where the cuts need to happen is not in the rank and file. Look at the board members. They are grossly overpaid and their metrics are not supportive of that. Allstate is no longer competitive. They’ve lost their position in the market and this does not merit the highest pay in the industry.

The rates and such really vary between states, I stopped shopping around several weeks ago since no one could get me better rates and I have excellent credit, not accidents. I have friends and acquaintances that work for quite a variety of competitors and many have come from Allstate, the ones I know that work at State Farm said they took some big rate increase early this year, then reduced them due to COVID but are looking at increases again in January, Liberty Mutual just hit several people I know with 15-20% increases on property and the friend that works there says due to all the fires they are going to do another rate hike next year. American Family/Farmers/USAA/Progressive weren't close enough to even look further. Nationwide kept giving me different quotes with same coverage, not sure what was going on there but if they can't get a quote right not bothering with them.

The common info I did hear is expect rate hikes for those that were giving big rebates or rate decreases this year so they can recover their decreased earnings.

I know several State Farm agents and they keep talking about how difficult it is to get business and how their close rates are dropping, but again it will be different from state to state

I had Allstate for a number of years—home and auto. I figured I was probably paying a little more than I could be, but thought I’d support the company I work for. While I was not laid off, I have found this entire process to be unfair. Good employees have been let go and employees who are not meeting the mark are staying. Decided I was not going to be loyal any longer since the company is not loyal to good, competent employees. I was paying over $1,600/half for 4 cars and 4 drivers, State Farm is able to give me same coverage for less than $800/half! (Ohio...SF has just taken rate cuts)

Former employee and policyholder left astate in August, my covid refund total was about $29, my rates doubled in the prior 5 year period with no changes in status. Changed insurance when I left found same coverage 1/2 what astate charged @ Hartford. Now working in collision repair industry dealing with multiple insurance co's , 7 days to resolve supplement with astate, 2-3 with encompass and esurance. Other major carriers 2-4 days for initial and supplements. My opinion as a former 24 year employee is the chain of command and current decision makers shaping astate need to pull their collective heads out of the dark space they inhabit. Customers service and price, no hassle claims and resolution should be basic process but a**state has to complicate with metrics and checkpoints and turn settling a claim into a 25 step process.

30 days is the average amount of time it takes to settle a OTL. 7 to 10 days for a VA estimate. 7 to 10 days for a GHRN shop to get word on repairability. Allstate needs to sell 60 day TE policy. They cover excess rental all the time now. No customer service being given. Allstate customer service promise is a joke.

Agreed, in fact my renewal just came in the mail and went up 5%, nothing has changed. Called my agent and he said a rate increase in the area. What a insult to injury get laid off by Allstate and policy go up. Time to shop
