Well Operations Supervisors

EM awards contracts to subcontractors, and these subs hire their own people. EM employees typically provide oversight. Not accurate to say EM hires all field and plant personnel. Many are contractors, especially in remote locations, and they are usually required to have an employment agency back them to avoid EM accepting and paying liability, benefits, etc.

In the 1950's and before, it wasn't unusual for O&G companies to actually own rigs and for rig workers to be employees, often living in company housing and camps. But no more.

Plenty of employees working offshore on platforms, not as many domestically or in the permian that work “on the rig”

I thought the operations on production rigs were contracted out to 3rd parties ? For example, Shell operates EM rigs in the North Sea.

Rig workers are contracted by XOM, so discussions about their layoffs would be on their own company forums.

Onshore: Drilling Rig workers work on drilling rigs an drill wells - They do not move product. The plant and field workers produce wells and plant products - they do not work on drilling rigs. There is a difference between a rig and a field/plant. Offshore: drilling Rigs are placed on platforms to drill wells, by rig workers. Once the well is drilled, the rig leaves the platform and platform (field) workers produce the wells from a platform. Drilling Rigs are for drilling (they have derricks). Rig workers and tool pushers work for drilling companies not XOM. I know it is confusing for some of you college boys and trolls, but high school educated people in the field understand the difference between a drilling rig and a production platform (or field). XOM employs the field people...not the drilling rig personel. There are even more distinctions with floating rigs, FPSO, subsea wells as you mov e to deepwater... XOM does not usually employ Drilling rig workers - they are contractors

I know it seems like that it’s all the ‘office folk’ that are on here complaining. Those who have never been out in the field, much less turned a valve. But there are ‘office folk’ who have and understand the impacts throughout the organization.

Rig workers are too busy trying to keep product moving in order to support all of these complainers in their cushy office jobs
