Thread regarding Hitachi Vantara layoffs

Why?

If you’re going to cut 60-80% of the digital organization why would you also hire a dozen very over-paid executives?
What is Gajen thinking?
Burning almost the entire field team and with it nearly all tribal knowledge is only going to lead him to two years of rebuilding before he himself is on the block like the ceo before him.

Mass firing tomorrow on a conference call?
I thought ethics were a big cultural focus at Hitachi.
Severance better be generous. Such arrogant behavior to walk in and completely burn everything down without even getting insight at the ground level. Good luck having your wall of over paid executives find new-business in accounts that will know you just removed their rep AGAIN like you seem to do every year. There’s no vision at this organization.

I have been here for 16 years and asked for a package and can't seem to get one. Why not let those who want to go, GO. Too close to retirement to leave and find new work. The package would be a NICE way of saying thank you for enduring so much pain the last 5 years. The cuts are so deep we can't get any work done. Those of us left are over taxed and no one cares. Just pay me to go away!

Congratulations. You are better off than to stay with this miserable company. Hope I can get mine soon to end this pain.

I recently got axed. It was with my manager and HR. Not on a mass conf call. Typical Severn e package for HV 2wks for each year of service.

Been around for a decade. Something happened 5 years ago, and now they think they can fire their way to success and outsource everything to Hyderabad....failing to understand a significant proportion of our customers are linked to government agencies that won't let a foreign states control their systems.

Whether you know it or not, these layoffs have been happening for YEARS in smaller groups of 20-30 at a time. They've disguised them as 'a reorg'. It's not announced or communicated across the company. You won't know unless you know someone that's been laid off. It has nothing to do with position, salary, knowledge, etc. They are very careful and they will lay off people in every age group because they don't want a lawsuit. When they do these 'small' layoffs they don't have to report it to the SEC so it won't hit the news causing a stock price reduction.

If your in EMEA, I do know some guys that got an attorney and they got their severance doubled. You've got options that are better than the US in that respect. Use them.

The fact that its been indicated here that they are laying off hundreds on one call would suggest they now are not trying to save face. It's over and it has been since the rebranding. They pushed out and laid off most of the very good people. They've laid off their 'credibility'. Current customers are done and they are not coming back. They were concerned years ago when this all started.
This is a complete reboot or shutdown and a perfect write-off for Hitachi Limited.

Only you immediate manager can fire you. So there will be many one-on-one calls with HR prior to the town hall meeting.

Sorry to hear that. There's never a good way of doing that sort of thing, but a mass call? That's pretty savage. Take care.

Whomever thinks there haven't been mass firings on a single call should have been on the one I just got fired on. Nearly a hundred of us on the call.

There are no ethics at HV. They will do the very least to comply in order to avoid any lawsuits. The $19 trillion dollar IoT business that we are nibbling at is basically a pipe dream. Does anyone think our customers will trust HV when it comes to Cloud?? I don’t and neither do our customers.

Why not support your employees during this difficult time, instead of cutting at all, "hard" or otherwise. Hitachi makes a big deal out of acting ethically, now would be a good time to prove it's not just an act.

I'm beginning to wonder if the person quoting all these huge and differing figures, across different threads, is the same troll.

I question the percentages noted here. Also, by ‘Digital’, is ‘Infrastructure’ or ‘Solutions’ more impacted this round?

Best of luck to all impacted people.

I laughed at the “ethics”. This company only talks about ethics because they think that makes them look good.

Kinda like how they talk about diversity, come to think of it.

Digital Infrastructure" and "Digital Solutions"

What part of the business does the "the digital organization" refer to?

AFAIK there are two business units "Digital Infrastructure" and "Digital Services". Does that mean huge cuts across both? Cutting either by that amount seems madness, regardless.
