Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Perfectly stated

Good managers exist. Real leaders not so much. Leadership is not cultivated in our system.

Well @sgj definitely hit why you have no true leaders anymore. You bash the EM teachings of “don’t rock the boat” into anyone who is new (BTW you have approximately 20% of the employees that started 2 years ago still at the company) and then you get a SLS or FLS role and say “They don’t think like me get rid of them and get a new person”. We are like a slug sitting in the path of a slow magma flow not adapting to new technologies and nurturing the skills of those who come on. While simultaneously keying in on their weaknesses and emphasizing on the fact that they exist.

If EM didn’t use that particular mode of think sgj would be without a job instead of EM relieving a new hire of duty and saying they can’t work at EM ever again.

Original OP is actually correct. The board realized this which is why each staff function and possibly BL was ordered to hire a few senior executives off the street over the last year. It was recognized that our management was too insular and hurting the business due to the inbred management development approach used by ExxonMobil since the beginning of time. The most recent example is the announcement that the new General Counsel in Law (the top position) is a person hired in 2019. Having been around a long time, I can tell you this never happened before. The question is what effect will this new blood have on the corporation. Will they infuse the organization with some new ideas and real leadership or will they simply conform and tow the line to maintain their millions in compensation and executive incentives?

This parrot reminds me of so many losers, psychopaths and lowly supervisors, managers and VPs I have seen in EM. Self fueled arrogance!

Ba5tards such as @sgj+17w2PdG7 are unemployable elsewhere so they tout their own "leadership" horn. Hard working technical mployees should chase all of these folks out of the company.

I am loving hearing old timers blame the current mess of the business on the new hires.

Like ok you worked this problem for 40 years and you're going to blame the guy that just walked into the room?

If takes a leader to know a leader. You obviously have blinders on and cannot recognize the leaders around you. EM hires 2000 MPT a year & none are leaders???? total BS. Among the 80% who survive the next 2 years, there are leaders who will rise up. It has happened after every BOOM-BUST and layoff in the last 40 years. Every gripe in this board, I heard in layoffs in 1982, 1986, 1989, 1992, 1994, 1997. The complaints are the same. Leaders will arise, If not, ALL of YOU DESERVE TERMINATION. Your Attitude determines your altitude in the org. I suspect the ENTITLED SNOWFLAKE Generation is the problem. Your parents handed out too many soccer trophies just for playing the game and losing. The REAL WORLD is different. GROW UP
