I want to start a thread about success stories that came out of all this mess. I want to share my story and hope others join. I just want to get rid of the negativity and show that pip'd or non pip'd employees can take a dire situation and turn it around.
So I have work for the company a little less than 10 years and was recently pip'd. It came virtually out of nowhere and the feedback I received in April was nothing compared to what I received later. I'm a technical worker I do very good at my work and have a lot of respect with operations. In fact I still get calls from some of the operators on some questions that they have even though I no longer work at ExxonMobil.
I did not play the PowerPoint game and was looked over in the ranking session because I do not brown nose. I decided to take the PIL and go look for another job which I did. I had several good offers in different locations across the United States. I took one of the offers closer to my family that pays about 15% less then ExxonMobil in terms of overall compensation, which is not bad for me since I'm frugal. Plus I know opportunity to advance is much greater there so I look to make it up soon.
I started work officially in early October I will say so far I'm impressed at the new company I work at it is a totally different industry but the culture is more modern and less clicky. For example they do not have forced ranking, you are simply assessed based upon how well you work on your project, it is an absolute type assessment system. If you were to get a promotion you have to apply for it on the intranet it is not given to you. Of course it does not mean that there are not politics where I work, but it is much more collaborative and the people have less interest in stepping on you as many have worked there for many years and want to see the company do well.
I continue the same way I've always worked by working collaboratively, staying positive, honest, and have quality and quantity of work which has always been my strengths. I know that positivity wins in the end and I've realized God wants me to move on and so far he has blessed me.
I hope this inspires others who are thinking about leaving. I hope XOM does well by getting into the renewables space and really supporting positive growth of the company, industry, society as a whole.
