Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Managers and supervisors spared from layoffs?

I was not PIP’d but noticed that most colleagues that were PIP’d were individual contributors. It was sad to see some solid performers get unfairly PIP’d. But I saw hardly any supervisors and managers PIP’d. Believe me there are plenty of underperforming managers and supervisors.

I wonder if layoffs will take the same approach. Will managers/supervisors be spared and worker bees sacrificed?

Assessment based "layoffs" impacted 8-10% of every single ranking group. Managers were not excluded. Most targeted were retirement eligible and chose to retire.

Been a manager for number of years, I have to admit that politics play is stronger than value creation this year. Internal movements taking away my team members due to hiring freeze lately, such a pain. From a managerial capacity, no one is willing to sacrifice their team for other managers. I am spending so much time on such meaningless politics, doing nothing much valuable this year. Definitely worried for myself now. The new ranking system is impacting everyone globally, no one is spared.

@bgn+17tILKCW Is actually Darren Woods. It’s a preview of his upcoming town hall presentation.

You are an id–t. I would worry about your job. Expecting 65 hr/week is insane.

Many managers, exec's, and supervisors were in the nsi bucket...many have left very quietly.

Next round will target middle management in higher percentages ....but if you dont have a full days work to do..your not safe no matter who you are.

To answer your question, yes, round 2 is coming. The fact that many people still work few hours means there are too many. Minorities won’t be spared this time as most are not contributors, but were hired in the past due to “regulations”.

While we do not expect 100 hours per week, 65 is not unreasonable, especially in these times.

While I have had to PIP several employees, I have more to go. We reviewed the process using a JLA, and some of the QIs were that we waited too long, should have done this much sooner (too much LOT and more to capture). Another QI was why pay 3 months to get a NSI to leave - it is not necessary. An LPSA reveals that paying someone to leave is wasted expense and hits the ones who stay. If someone wants to sue, we can drag it out longer, besides, we already own all the lawyers where we operate.

In summary, if you are not a contributor, you should be looking for a job.

Managers will not be let go. They will lay-off in Technical position to make room for excess supervisors to fill those roles. That’s how the game works.

What types of roles did the solid performers get laid off. That supervisor should be the first to go.
