Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

So, one of the leftovers....

Im one of the leftovers from the sept cuts whos now had to do all of my usual work plus the work of a senior colleague who was one of the ones let go. Most of this new stuff ive literally never done before and while initially verbally supportive to
my concerns of that, mgmnt has pretty much just patted me on my head and ive been pretty much left to figure it out on my own. Colleagues have been supportive and helpful but really they have their own sh– to do and can only help so much.

So now i quite literally feel that im in a sink or swim situation and its complete b—s— because i did nothing to deserve this. Cant wait for the Tell Dell Survey this next time around.....theyre gonna get blasted and they damn sure deserve it.

Best part of all of this was an email we all got a week or two ago saying to the effect that bonuses are still on the table but they cant guarantee yet how much if any. Hahahahha you arent fooling anyone, we arent getting a damn thing. They consider our "bonus" us still being employed

Yes, voice your hatred on TD. You'll be at the top of the list to go the next quarter. congrats?

They cut the raises/promotions (despite employees having below average salary compared to other Silicon valley companies). They cut the 401k match. Yearly bonus also I feel might get cut.
Super good quarter due to high laptop sales caused by COVID. And still did layoffs.
Good luck to all of us still working here.

“Let me ride off into the sunset!” Haha - love it. That’s exactly what it felt like, so bazaar. I was definitely very angry when I heard the speech. Not totally surprised about the layoff but surprised at how coldly it was handled. After listening to months and months of “we’re in this together” “we’re taking care of our employees” “take the time you need to take care of your families” and then, right after a big project (like 10 minutes after) - I get the meeting and the cold speech.

I actually did try to get work transitioned over but realized during the rest of the day in that Wednesday, that I was done and opted to use my PTO for the remaining two days. Seriously, what’s the point?

Anyway - I knew it was going to happen sooner or later. I don’t do well with constant reorgs and I wasn’t happy.

To those who are still there just do what you need to and be grateful. If you’re not happy though then you should start looking now. Job market is opening up. :)

I am like the other person where this situation can be said it was the person who got my work that is complaining.

After I got the speech on Wed, I was told that I didn’t have to do a transition plan since my product is the most complicated in the group where one Mtg was pointless since there was too much info to train anyone. They told me to take the rest of Wed off. And left it open ended that I could no whatever I wanted (aka do nothing until Friday).

I think my manager thought I was going to fly on a plane and blow up his house. The reality was I was not livid at all.

The “leftover” waited until Friday with an email that said only “Can we chat?””
That caused me distress. It’s my last day, let me ride into the sunset. That person had Thurs to contact me.

After I got the speech, I logged off Skype and uninstalled it. Everything documented in email at the point for me.

And that leftover is still crying like this leftover who wrote the original post.

On the Tell Dell: it only takes one negative answer. I ought to have to stick to last years plan & basically left it all blank.

The Tell Dell survey is snake oil. Nobody gives a damn about your feelings. They're basically trying to find the snitches. My manager warned our entire team about this. He said, don't do it, as tempting as it may seem. These are not anonymous and executive leadership will put a mark on you.

I’m betting this is OP is a person from my former team who is now doing my work, with a somewhat new manager who is very hands off but has high expectations for you to get it done with no direction. Yup, I’m glad I’m not in it anymore. I definitely do not think this is the right place for you to be complaining though - did you bother reaching out to any of your colleagues who were let go? If you had, maybe that person or people could have helped you out a bit, just so that you know what you’re doing. Re: Tell Dell survey. I was a little too honest in a recent survey and found myself laid off. If you want to get laid off too, by all means let the company know how you really feel! Otherwise - smile, lie, and kiss their butts. That’s the only thing they want from you. Oh and of course the nonstop working with no pay advancements in sight. Pay cuts are probably next! Ugh. Good luck.

To the person asking if im looking for people to feel sorry for me, not at all. I would absolutely hate to be in your position and believe me, i know you guys have it worse. I dont mind extra work under normal conditions, hell being busy is being better than not being busy but when youre just expected to do things youve literally never done before with no guidance you cant help but feel that youre being thrown to the wolves per se

I guess my point was that everyones feeling the pain, though some more than others i agree.

Dell is the US: We can treat you like sh*t. Pile all the extra work on, burn you out but be thankful you have a job.

"Tell Dell" Ha! Tell Dell is a tool to placate the 'proles. Its not anonymous, it is compulsory and any answers that go against the company line are simply removed to create the perfect vision of a perfect company!
Moan away dear friend, at least it will keep you busy.

Are we supposed to feel sorry for you? See, at least you still have a job and a steady paycheck, we have unemployment (barely a 1/4 of our bi-weekly pay) plus regular bills and oh let’s not forget Cobra starting next month if we don’t find it cheaper or get a job. So excuse me if you don’t find pity here, at least not from me, at this point I’d gladly take the extra work...
