Not enough takers on VIP offer

Employees who were eligible for the recent VIP are apparently not taking the offer in great numbers. Is anyone surprised by that? HR indicated today that a slightly enhanced severance package will be announced later before the October 23 deadline. Perhaps even this week. No extension of the deadline is mentioned however employees who have already accepted the VIP will receive the enhanced offer as well. Severance offers to be increased from a maximum of nine months to 15 with a sliding scale as is now for less years of service. Involuntary offers previously hinted at by Dec are much more likely now, if fact, you can count on it if targets are not reached in October. To quote an earlier posting, "Buckle Up Kiddos" it's gonna be a wild ride. How is anyone expected to get serious work done with constant employment drama hanging over their head?

The fact they made very little change in condensing bands speaks volumes in ho tight $$$ is and cash burn is king right now. My gut says involuntarys will take place by years end and in no way will that be the end of it going forward.

Not sure one way or the other whether I will be chosen but I am cutting my spending and have been for sometime. I am preparing for the worse and hoping for the best.

Crazy how I have had to go through this at Ford.

On Life@Ford site now, and possible they did make a change- they condensed the bands to just three, with the effect that they are all broader now. For instance, the 9 month total pay benefit band now started at 16 years, where before it seemed to start at 20...unless I read it wrong last month?
Anyway, not a big enough change to sway me, so guess I am stuck waiting for involuntary........sigh. Someone is correct, letting huge number of people go during a pandemic is not cool, and it will come to bite them in the butt later. Guess I need to start looking now....

Ford is not upping the offer to 15 months. They are already in line with their last SRD offer and 3 months better than GM’s last offer. Farley has proven in the past he will make the tough decisions even if he is a little bit schizophrenic at times

Absolutely! Hold in there!! Stay home, stay safe and don’t worry we’ll clear out dedicated people of age is bs. Sweeten up the package F. Uncle Sam is spending trillions to keep thing’s afloat. Kick in F. Do the right thing - a few months + with no health care in the middle of a pandemic is “Not” the Right thing.

Current VIP severance is same as involuntary severance, so why not wait? If HR wants more volunteers, they should up the ante on severance

15 months severance and larger lump sum retirement payout due to lower interest rates. I am ready!

You know 15 months makes sense. The added months would give the voluntary employees more time for the virus to clear and opportunity to emerge for re-employment or adjust their skill set. A little extra cost, but a win/win to avoid involuntary.

It will the 1400 offers not taken plus next year's task. This is the new normal. Easier to cut you while you work from home as well. Keep those keys a typing!

Looks like just your standard T Roll post. No substance. Nothing to back it up.

Yes, where is this announcement by HR? There is less than 2 weeks to the deadline. In 2018 when they upped the offer, they did so with more than two weeks left to go on that deadline offer.

If true, however, I would consider it more than now - would really prefer the 18 month deal Marketing & Sales Gabe Out in 2018. I could have made s case for getting it then, and regret I did not. Might have to settle for 15 months....,if it comes at all.

Does anyone know can they ‘customize’ the package by area, like could PD give a richer offer than other departments?

@1wpt . GLad you found what you were looking for after Ford. everybody would love to know what company you are talking about that values you and their experienced workers, and is not a game show. I don't suppose you would provide us a hint ?

A RIF by any other name is still a RIF. So glad I’m gone. Took the package in 2018. Had a gap year and was lured back to work by another company at a salary $60k more than Ford. I was a Ford supervisor for more than 20 years and apparently not promotable. I was hired in Dec of 2019 and given a department of 25. Now I have a team of over 130 and growing. I never played the games at Ford and I don’t play the games now. Getting the work done in a nice way in 80 hours over 2 weeks is what’s important. Experience is valued at my new employer vs Ford can’t wait to terminate the older workers. What a difference and much happier. :)

@zfn+17pE2pTp - I agree with the sentiment of your comment (calling a spade a spade). But if you are going to talk about calling a spade a spade, I would suggest you then call it what it really is - a Termination (or firing), not really a layoff. Layoffs suggest that in the future if business improves they will call you back to work. That concept doesn't apply to any Ford salaried people - only Ford union workers. In your case (yes, I am assuming you are salaried and not union), nobody will ever call you back to work. It always amazes me how a bunch of college professionals don't even realize they are being fired when a company downsizes / reduces the number of employees. I guess it feels better to call it a layoff rather than admit you are being fired. They might hire back some people in the future (in the case of Ford, almost certainly will - whether it makes sense or not), but with rare exceptions, it won't be the people let go (during voluntary or involuntary separations)

Any truth to this? I watch the site occasionally and instead of reliable information, it's more like church lady gossip. Just sayin'

"Involuntary offers." Who the F comes up with these terms? At least have the courage to call a spade a spade. Its a LAYOFF.

Nobody is going to be able to focus and stress levels will only get worse. Do they care? F-no they don't and never have. Anyone is also a fool to think this will be the last. Instead of severely cutting senior management, they will decimate the workforce to save themselves.
