Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The anxiety is getting to me.

Not normally an anxious person but this waiting game is the worst. Total productivity k–ler. Can’t understand how it can possibly take this long to make an announcement in US where labor laws don’t exist. Can anyone think of other good examples of EM taking 10x longer Than necessary to get something done?

If Exxon want loyalty to it's company then in return Exxon should give the employees the same , after nov 1 the PIP's will be gone , management already knows the next list and the names on it , please let them know asap the waiting is not productive to no one including ExxonMobil

It is amazing we had to run a bunch of studies to get to the exact same 15-20% reduction as all the IOCs. Just another example of our analysis paralysis (actually incompetence of management). And in the process we have destroyed productivity and morale. Do any of these execs wake up in the morning and really think they are better than the competition? Or they just wake up worrying about what DW or their CE thinks of them? I think it’s the the latter and is the outcome of our disastrous top down, force rank, POS culture. Doubt anyone wakes up in the morning thinking about their employees or the shareholder. Just worry about their id–t a-Hole boss. Everyone has one except DW and you can see we clearly haven’t trained someone to actually think for themselves and run a company.

@1iya+17mxUXY1, your source? Because that is NOT what I’m hearing.

Take it from me that nothing is coming this year for those who haven’t been PIPed. Just save as much as you can.

All EM employees are unproductive and useless jerks. Who cares about the a-ho incompetent technical folks or the future prison guard eligible supervisors, managers and VPs of EM. The company is rotten to the core and is a collection of bunch of useless folks.

By the way I cannot her but add that OP you are now playing the anxiety game? Where was your vocal apprehension when you were collecting fat pay checks to hang around the hand rails – holding it for the visual pleasures of your supervisor!

I've observed on other Layoff boards (Chevron / Wells Fargo / Cisco) - the process is similar.
At least the PIPs (called the same by other boards!) were merciful, if degrading).

Seems none of these actions are 1-by-1 or group-by-group.
They are all sledge-hammer style. Rolling out all the guillotines at once.

Seems to be the same pattern with all the bigs.
Maybe that's what the fellow meant by Corporate Socialism.
(It does have a wiki page).

From here:
Use your company time taking online courses in your field to stay current.
company can't criticize or complain of that.
if you are already marked - you'll be somewhat up to date for the future.

Exception: if you're at ANY Level of 'Management' in ExxonMobil, the skills are gone and maybe a loan collection job or prison job is in your future.

They are waiting for the PIPs to leave on 11/1. That disguised layoff will then be behind them and they can announce a “real” layoff on another large block of employees. Aren’t they clever? The next group will probably come from the NI and Good categories. Retirement eligible employees in their late 50s shouldn’t get too excited about a severance because the company may pass over them for the layoff under the assumption that those old folks may be leaving soon anyway. There is precedent for this in the past. If they stay longer than expected, they can be PIPed out next year on the cheap.

Suggest you devote your productivity to finding a better job. If you’re productive at EM, they might put you in the bottom third. Typical management advice – if you don’t like it here, you can leave.

Taking 10x longer is very normal for EM. Just try to find things that bring you joy in the evenings and weekends. It's completely out of our hands, so stressing about it will do absolutely no good. It's painful, and it's ugly, but you're going to be okay. We all are.

Know that anxiety is normal through all of this and talking about it is good. I never used to be an anxious person and then I started working at XOM a couple years ago and it’s been a different story... it can all get to you quickly..take care of your mental health.

Get over it. Nothing you can do, so just keep going on with the days work processes. If you can't handle it, quit and go elsewhere.
