IBM business split: One-fourth of India staff may be part of new entity

While IBM does not disclose the India headcount, it is estimated that the country accounts for
about a third of its global workforce of over 350,000.

350K/3 = 116,667. 116,667/4 = 29,167. So if 90K heads will be moving over to NewCo as has been reported, then this means ~1/3rd of this 90K will be IBM India employees, which means the remaining 60K heads will be moved over from NA, LA, and EMEA. For the sake of argument, let's presume that breakdown is probably something like: 60% NA, 30% EMEA, and 10% LA. So ~36K heads from NA, ~18K heads from EMEA, 6K heads from LA. And wouldn't be surprised if this were even more heavily weighted toward NA.

It's not coincidence that IBM announced this spin-off less than a week after the new H-1B restrictions were also announced. With one of the new requirements being to pay at the 45th percentile instead of the 17th, this will remove a large portion of the cost advantage companies can achieve by purchasing I/T support from third party companies like IBM. I'd say NewCo is already in trouble before it even exists.
