Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Leaving was my best decision

After 20+ years and continued ranking in the top plus mid to high salary increases yearly, I was PIP'ed for reasons that simply shocked me. Considering my track record, thought I will give it a try and after 7 weeks into it, realized it was nothing but a sham. So, took the rest and walked off. Best decision I ever made. Will tap back into the pension when needed.
There is more to life than punching time at that place and hearing cliched words. Just a lot of big words and no actions, especially in EMIT. And my life is already much better.

I was also told during my review to be more visible especially to operations since they are the customers. I was an experienced hire with less than 2 years.

@OP+17jrUY1x what were your options? Might call benefits in the upcoming weeks to see what my options are, whether to separate or “retire”.

I dropped during my review for not being visible as well. Glad to know it's not me. I've always been a high performer. I was totally caught off guard.

Just remember this is a layoff in disguise. The objective (as it is in the announced layoffs in Europe and Australia) is to reduce the workforce. Yes, it is sham. They are going through the motions with the PIP process and will terminate the employee at the end of it. This is not about performance, it is about shedding a large number of employees. Hopefully, a handful will make it, but understand the real motivation here. It’s a lay-off on the cheap, because they can get away with it. It’s really an ugly thing and the remaining employees will remember it for a long time and realize the company may very well do it them in the future.

I am was already told earlier this year that I barely missed getting PIPd. With all the news, I am weighing it out to see what would be the right move. 3 more months and I get my 15 years, but miss the age. And with the way things have changed, and hearing c-ap every day from these SDMs, I feel like it would be better to kick rocks.

YES!!! Pull the trigger already! After falling from the top third to the bottom third for not being “visible” enough...BS. I’m still working hard but, my heart is no longer it and I trust NO ONE!! DW and his “careful considerations” are a bag of lies. I was hoping to work another 10 years but, 55 never looked so good. I hope they offer a reasonable package but, either way, I’m out at 55. My health is not worth risking.

Congratulations and good luck. I sometimes feel like it would be better to get fired than to go through all this uncertainty. The money is hard to walk away from. A kick in the pants would s— but in the long run probably better for my career. Ugh.
