AT&T often Took Million For A Networks Never Deployed

This is far from the first time AT&T has misrepresented its broadband availability. The company back in April was forced to admit to the FCC it misrepresented broadband availability across 20 states in its territories. AT&T's also fighting efforts to improve broadband map accuracy on several fronts. In a news release, Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley urged the FCC to investigate what it called a history of inconsistencies and falsehoods:

"Our investigation has revealed a wide array of inconsistencies in what AT&T advertises as available and what actually exists when consumers try to get Internet service," Presley said. "All the while, AT&T has submitted data saying that they have used federal funds to bring Internet service to these specific homes. AT&T knows, for a fact, that information that they have provided regarding where their Internet service exists is false. They know that through their own, internal records. It's imperative that the FCC and other appropriate federal agencies work with us to hold them accountable."

All this made possible by the "good" work of the shyster layers that AT&T employs.
T is not "obligated" to provide customer info to legislators.
Neither is it "obligated" to disclose how many people it has fired or rebadged the last few years, unless they were Union.
The real numbers in either category will never be disclosed, because there is no law REQUIRING to do so.
It is called "managing to the legally defensible" versus "the legally mandatory".
And even if the mandatory stuff is not done, so what, the fines are still lower than the cost of compliance.
Good luck trying to count actual Customers or Employees...

If it is borderline illegal or deceptive you will find AT&T droppings....

That money over the years was diverted to building out the 5G wireless network instead Owe were promised fiber to the home and got 5G instead and that in itself is questionable at best

No dividends in T would crash the value of the stock well into the teens if it’s lucky. It’s the ONLY attractive lure to owning T as an investor because it is certainly not a growth company! Owning T is even risky with a 7% dividend because of zero growth with zero vision for the future!

Put some more metrics on those that do actual work and all will be good.

Out Randall and Stankey and board on trial. In meantime, reach an agreement with replacement board and McFresh that company must build broadband to homes using all its dividends for next five years to build that network.
