In my 20+ years at Intel, the one time I was ever listed as 'slower' was immediately after I transferred into a group of cracker jack pre-silicon debug experts. They needed a sacrificial lamb and I was it. Later, looking back at my status reports I realized that time period was my most productive in the company. I left that group and never looked back except to disallow myself from ever being 'borrowed' back into it.
