URC RTD CSR Digital - A drain on company resources

Can anyone provide examples of how URC CSR RTD Digital groups have helped the company other than being a drain on company resources since the last 10-15 years? Full of egomaniac leaders, lying phDs, patting themselves on their back for mediocre work that high school students can do better? Isn't it obvious that they should be cut immediately?

To spot one of these people is easy - they have no clue about oil and gas, have done no significant original research in EM, are endlessly recreating commercially available software and peddling horrible applications and are often seen claiming victory for creating things like mediocre dashboards. The groups only gift is sending their pathetic employees to other areas of business to embarrass themselves everyday - serves as good cringeworthy entertainment every time you interact with them. Shame on 'managers' who can't raise their voice against this obvious issue, does accountability even exist in these orgs? It is definitely a poor leadership issue, the employees do what they have to to survive, and I have seen the biggest, spineless YES MEN eventually become leaders and ..its an endless cycle..god help us.

True there are other parts of the organisation which might be lacking in technical knowledge but this is the 'research company', they are full of overpaid phDs - its their job to keep technology in the company up to date. Instead they make useless applications and like each others Yammer posts all day long and attend conferences and every other visibility thing with zero returns.

Do they have any conscience or shame at all?

CSR RTD is just a gimmick to show we have thousands of phDs and hence we are a technology company. How lame is that? I agree with OP that I fail to quote a single example of value addition by these organisations other than draining money and making others life worse.

It is not a good idea to generalize about one particular group. There are always good ones and bad ones. I have seen numerous example where some asset engineers and manager from UOG are clueless about any technical details of their wells and how to improve its performance. All they do is copy things that were done in past or what some of our competitors are doing without doing any due diligence or analyzing what our data from past wells is telling. This has severely wasted so much of our company money and is one of the reason we are where we are.

CSR has many engineers and PhD scientists who have come in from India and China. Some of these are very good scientists, but there are a majority who are pretty useless and appear to have been hired to support our I&D initiatives. The CSR VP is a poster boy for this activity - he appears to have absolutely no understanding of science, but he also seems to be in IBM's pocket. All of the high visibility work in CSR (e.g. algae, carbon capture) relies on significant leverage from 3rd party companies and universities. The reason may be for good PR, but they could have cut out the middle men (CSR) and funded or partnered with those 3rd parties and achieved the same results.

The corporation should have shut down CSR (or significantly reduced the headcount) years ago and moved any remaining functions to Houston. That would have made much more sense than moving the product development groups up from Paulsboro, just so that their project funds could be used to subsidize CSR's activities and the massive overhead costs of the Clinton site.

Everyone involved with the NJRSC project deserves to be terminated (for the mistakes, the lies and wasting company resources), but they all received promotions, bonuses and a move to a higher paying job.

Someone convinced management & the feeble minded that a Tableau dashboard = analytics.
At least they got the anal part right...

I work at URC and now RTD. To be honest I have never seen or imagined an organization as worthless as this one. The problem is firing us all is that we are so used to getting fat paychecks and traveling the world business class on company dime that we are utterly unemployable so we will do whatever it takes to stay in the company like lee - ches.

I am not as harsh in judging as you but I have to admit I can’t give you a a specific example. My problem with URC is they never actually asked the business what it needed until it was too late and they were seeing cuts. EM over works everything tho and I have seen countless examples of science projects totally in the business. This is a huge waste. We should use science for business and keep it simple. And to be honest just having reliable computers that work at industry standard speeds for technical apps would be more valuable than any transformation project. I don’t know what CSR does so no fair comment there. So yeah, we have room to cut and refocus. The URC culture has been toxic and a mirror of academia for years. That needs to die. PhD’s are ok, there are alot of us that are totally business focused. It’s “academics” or people that behave like that we need to expunge. So yeah, i guess I agree w you.
