Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Stood my ground and got PIP’d

I have a supervisor who hates me. From day one he has either been physically (pushing me around, getting in my face) or verbally abusive towards me. Why, I have no idea. I keep my head down and work my a– off. Finally I couldn’t take it anymore and went to his supervisor. We had a meeting that lasted all of 10 minutes (if that) with me threatening to take it to HR if it doesn’t get resolved. Oh it got resolved alright - I got PIP’d. I said the hell with it and quit. It may or may not be a good decision for me but screw it - I refuse to work for a company that doesn’t protect their employees from this type of behavior.

I opened an HR case, had emails, tape recordings and texts showing clear abuse and discrimination. My case was closed on a Thursday and I was told they couldn’t tell me anything about the case and I was handed my termination papers on Friday along with the, “I will not sue XOM paperwork.”

I’ve had my share of verbal abuse from a manager. HR does sh–.. glad I have left this company. Culture sinks. Not surprised how these “leaders” screw the company into such a pathetic state.. only comfort I had is the Benjamins I’ve gotten from shorting this stock down

OP do you work at a site or at an office? I cannot imagine this abuse happening in an office setting. I know things are rougher at the sites.

Tell me, what do you call it when somebody continuously pushes you - roughly - out of they way to pass by you when there is more than enough room to simply walk around you? And that somebody is your supervisor? I call that workplace physical abuse, you can call it whatever you want and we'll agree to disagree.

I’ve never seen or heard of a supervisor be physical to a subordinate (at least in a non s-xual way)

That’s just terrible!! The only thing we can do is share and let it be known. It’s so prevalent in this company and it’s shocking when you find out it’s more the norm than the exception . Be proud you stood your ground! I think we all know now that asking questions, reporting abuse and harassment will get us in trouble here. Good luck with everything.

Physical abuse from a supervisor pushing you around? I just find that very hard to believe. Sorry. But feel free to post the video.

Good. Truly happy for you. You have earned self respect. You won’t regret this decisions in the long run. I was in a similar situation and did nothing. I regret it. Be very choosy with your next job. Be honest during the interview with what happened. Those types are all of over the place.
