I worked in Global Supply Chain. It's a toxic environment, lots of fake work and s—ing up to suppliers to get visibility with Intel VP's. That's right, even though there is no actual business opportunity for the supplier, they push suppliers to visit with VP's. They call it "being strategic".

is it an existential threat if intel is already dead and everything you see now is just neurons firing without direction?

I think you can get an idea based on what my peers wrote below: the problem is in our management.

We went away from the culutre of innovation and R&D to a new situation where all what it matters is metrics, playing it safe, and politics.

The existential threat is the c-ap executive suite.

Since BK took the CEO position the strategy has been cut cut cut, move everything abroad and keep reducing costs. The entire management line is just politics.

Sorry to say it but it's not a good strategy to have so many H1B people playing it safe because they are waiting for the GC, sometimes 10 years. They don't say if anything is wrong, they don't take any risks, they are just boot licking people, really. This is not a rant against immigration or anything, but let's be real, what do you expect?

I agree with my intel colleague. Our biggest existential threat is the weak CEO, the board and the executive team. I am sure you can relate to this sentiment as an employee of another company. Great companies are ruined mainly by their incompetent managers not by their competitors.

CEO is a finance guy who has no expertise in our industry. Previously his longest tenure was at eBay, Unfortunately, during his time, eBay lost its position and increasing became irrelevant. This says something.

Although the CEO appears to be a mature, professional manager, we didn’t see anything from him other than uneducated cost cutting, which is the easiest action finance can do. He also championed targets such as achieving a certain market capitalization and operating expense as % of revenue targets. Both of these by themselves are useless targets. What drives market cap and revenue are strong competitive advantage and growth.

In addition, when you have weak people who have very limited knowledge, they tend to hire or attract other weak people.

Our problem has never been strong competition. Intel historically a very competitive company. Our problem is weak management.

Let's just say that I'd rather have Pedro Cerrano of Allstate run Intel than Bob the bean counter.
