Boy it’s funny when people are trying to give good advice on here for finances and people don’t wanna hear it. If you don’t have 15+ years your days are numbered. Facts people Facts.

The class 1’s still use union workers but that doesn’t mean they won’t contract out maintenance. They can use contract companies for rebuilds and heavy repairs. I know NS and CSX are doing this, but to what degree I don’t know. They are also short lining many routes and this is eliminating jobs in all crafts. I do know this is a fact.

Everyone keeps saying that the industry is contracting locomotive maintenance out yet all of the class one railroads still use union workers. Are they trying to bust the unions out possibly will they be able to do it maybe they will maybe they won’t. Only one things likely to happen this company will be voted worst place to work for again to retain the title.

They will contract out most if not all mechanical and maintenance in the near future. This is the trend in the railroad industry and UP will follow suit. Everyone should be sending out resumes, creating a LinkedIn page, etc. Many more cuts to come.

I think this is what they want especially for agreement employees. Lay off and then make it miserable for the remainder of people left to get the UNION labor out. Then cry that they don’t have people to work and get out of the UNION contracts. Then contract the work out or eventually have a non UNION workforce.
