Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

BPR Training a joke?

Lots of empty talk about “integrity” and “honesty“. Sounds hypocritical... and the robotic lady providing the training is so fitting. And they hired actors... what a waste of money.
Is this the only time we see Darren talking to us this year in a video? Lol

Feel free to believe what you want, every word I wrote is true. Maybe in Europe there are less sheep than in your office(s) and more people who dare stand up for what they believe is the correct thing to do, even if threatened by termination? There is no law in my country which can or will force me to sign or subscribe to anything except what is required by law. EM is not law!

I am still an EM employee, although with the collective dismissal plan which was announced on Monday erasing in some cases entire departments, my career will probably end sooner than expected.

With thanks to our fantastic higher (mis)management still claiming today that "people are our most valued assets".

You betcha. I particularly enjoyed the harassment in the workplace section. I have been shocked at some things I witnessed myself that were never addressed. Talk to HR? They are not there to protect employees but managers. Ask your friends.

Totally agree. XOM cares how we solve problems? If that were true we wouldn’t have all this duplication of efforts all over the place.

@kgn+17dt3x9s - definitely ! How is it NOT a conflict of interest when the CL30's and above receive a large part of their remuneration as RSU's - the Board even more so - and so the same people who will receive higher dividend payments are the ones who authorized unprecedented borrowing levels to maintain unreasonably high dividend payments? It makes me think of fraud on a scale to rival Enron, where the CEO, the Directors and Presidents bankrupt a company while syphoning cash out into their own bank accounts.

That's pretty hypocritical, for a company that fires employees for a simple mistake using the company credit card. But then, this is the company that signed a massive payoff to Lou Noto if he left EM within 2 years of the merger (so guess what he did - and wasn't THAT a conflict of interest to Mobil employees and their investors ?)

@lsi+17dt3x9s - uhhh, what part of "multi-national oil company" is confusing you ? The "actors" are not necessarily expats, you know!

@1zkn+17dt3x9s - I was with you all of the way, until you wrote: "Refused to do the BPR that year, which was unheard of and not appreciated: I was haunted by many "high people" to just complete the training and tick the box. I did not."

I could believe everything else, but refusing to complete mandated corporate training (BPR, Ethics, Anti-Trust, etc.) is a sure-fire way to be terminated.

BPR = jut hollow talk. We reported years ago with a group of 6 an incident with a supervisor who told and wrote to our team to keep accruals at YE low so we would not go over our YE target. He bullied his team and made inappropriate remarks. He and his boss were "investigated" by Audit, by HR, by the LCM, by a VP in the US; the outcome was "no irregularities" despite email proof-we suspect someone was protecting the wrong doers.

The 6 whistle blowers were given other jobs, the performances made a serious tumble from which it took many years to recover.

Open, honest, candid, integrity, transparent, no retaliation,... bla bla bla. Refused to do the BPR that year, which was unheard of and not appreciated: I was haunted by many "high people" to just complete the training and tick the box. I did not.

Like OP says: you need to be able to look yourself in the mirror each day; I still can.

Integrity and honesty, as long as it doesn’t get away from the story your manager wants to tell

That was so terrible and they’ve been working on this for 3 years now??!!! It was just painful going through it... like do we s— this bad as a company? I’m sure everybody working on it is so proud of themselves...Ive had this type of training at other companies before and no need to spend hours taking videos of all these high level people, or the ridiculous acting. Absolutely no need at all if anybody reads this on that team, please donate all that wasted money to a charity next time :) and then the content was terrible also with the actors and the terrible robotic voice and everything. Don’t those high level people have anything better to do with their time during this unprecedented difficult time for the company. Grrrrt.... it truly feels like our beloved company badly Needs significant Improvement in a lot of areas...Another reminder to continue trying to find a new job and get out of this sh– show ASAP.

The dividend payout decisions is a moral hazard/conflict of interest in my opinion. The people who make the decision to pay out vs plow back into high return projects are large shareholders themselves .. by virtue of that, they are paying themselves with the dividend, so where is the integrity in that? Employees are fired for accidentally using the corporate card for personal but executives paying themselves dividend by the millions is business as usual

In the BPR training, did you hear the part where they say “XOM goes beyond minimum legal requirement and does what is ethical”.
Reality:
US - Fake PIP as it is legal here but not ethical.
Australia - No fake PIP as it is not legal there.
The XOM management (from CEO down to first line supervisors) are a complete joke. Do they lack self awareness to this extent?

What’s up with all the foreign accents in the video? Can only imagine what we are paying expats to be here. How many $million per year for ONE of them? Why can’t we cultivate leaders from our own soil?

The VPs and presidents presenting are just as Robotic as the robot computer lady . This area is highly important for everybody and we understand the need for the training but how this training was made is yet just another slap in the face how this company misses the point over and over again. They should cut all videos of all employees and especially leadership to save costs... they are useless and most of us are sick of hearing robotic leaders that seem to lack emotion.
