I know of a few, and I honestly can't see an upside to it. With all the layoffs, if you want to leave isn't it a better idea to wait it out (since chances are you'll end up on one of the lists sooner rather than later) and get a severance? Even if you have already found a new job, starting a new position when the pandemic can cause more layoffs anywhere making the newest hires the most likely candidates for cuts... just doesn't make sense to me.

Just heard of more people quitting. We are losing some really good people.
@2bic+17dIdPky - you can say that again! The culture at EM reminds me of The Human Centipede, with DW at the head and everyone downstream of him having to eat the s**t that their supervisor emits.
Left the hole early this year. Honestly, it is really greener and brighter. Much more humane. Those staying behind still trying to digest the "weareEM" BS. From a human point of view, we need to be humble, and should not think like EM.
At the end of the day you have to do what you feel is best for you and your family. If that means moving on from XOM then it is what it is. Understand that the world is much bigger than what you see in your current bubble and not everyone has the same set of circumstances or goals.
- I believe even if you get a severance you aren't supposed to continue taking it if you get a new job
- It's better to look for a new job while you have a job versus being unemployed.
- To your last point - Not all companies offer on "Last in, first out" model.

Every Exxon manager, "Just be thankful that you have a job, even if you wanted to quit where would you go?" Everyone that has left, "Life is so much better now!"
Because some people realize outside companies will actually value them and treat them well. Working for a British Company outside oil and gas after XOM has been eye opening.
Pandemic hits, we lose 80% of sales globally. CEO to all employees: we are not cutting anyone, that will be our last resort after cutting dividend. We have a strong balance sheet to be prepared for this.
XOM: gotta keep paying our dividend with borrowed cash to protect the widow who's savings we have already destroyed!
It is about uncertainty. All (yes all) employee's future at XOM is uncertain. By quitting, people are trading that uncertainty and hoping the grass is greener whereever they go. The more BS XOM executives shovel, the greener the grass looks on the other side.
People are quitting because integrity matters.
There are industries sinking ( oil and gas and others) and there are other industries that are seeing tremendous growth during this time. Consumer behaviors have shifted Just as an example.... going with a company that is growing or seeing opportunities now is just the smart thing to do if you’re able to. Exxon will be shrinking for the next 2-5 years and that’s just a long time to have to be concerned about your job. Good luck y’all whatever you decide to do!

It just depends on what field you work in, where you are willing to work, and for what level of pay? Petroleum Engineer or Geophysicist vs. MBA or IT for instance.
