Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Protectionism

SLB spends millions of hours and dollars in convincing the workforce and shareholders of its meritocratic approach to drive excellence in the market place. Truth is though, that it continues to perpetuate nepotism all over the place.

For instance, in the UK, we are facing substantial cuts in many companies, including us, and with many people highly qualified (in both credentials and experience) I still see this expat guy running the drilling data analytics division. Can't he do this from his home country? Do we have to spend this much money on him and his bragging wife?

Same in the US, dozens of expats "providing training and development" but spending hundreds of hours trading in SLB's computers and booking imaginary appointments in their calendars to look busy.

End it now.

The blue print..... blue print for what?
To make sure ceo executives and n-1, n-2 all the way down are pretending to say the right thing. When the rubber hits the road- protect and hide until the dust settles and ignore integrity.....

Trust takes years to build and is destroyed quickly to protect a chief ego who cannot admit mistake. As they cannot admit a mistake, you get away with it and will repeat.

Great comment on the Blue Print- it looked fantastic, presented well and provided a comfort blanket.

The reality “integrity” does not exist and never has across the company. What exists is loyalty in key roles- especially anyone who climbs up. I saw first hand integrity- it was fantastic manager strong, who in the end got squashed by dis-loyalty of doing the right thing all the time.

The phrase often used was.... “who is your sponsor”, Ie who ae are you kissing and making them look good no matter who else you kick in the bos or fake revenue or fake SQ closure, or fake M&S, or fake results...

Anyone knows what is SLM job, other than adding meetings to one’s calendar, creating ugly slides templates and governing... hopefully they are paid peanuts. What about competency and training managers what is their job? Be degreed and pluralsight experts? What a mascarade! At the same time the company is struggling with promises given to the clients with Delfi... more work to do than engineers available to do it.

The company is bleeding expats, metiers, platform managers, data managers, digital science managers, and other non-essential jobs. A case too many chiefs and not enough workers. Cut these jobs and replace them with top engineering and science people that can create real value.

I know, I've sat down and attended to many of this presentations. This guy is just scrambling numbers and highlighting the obvious "focus on the data quality". Really? It his what we are paying an expat to do? I see absolutely NO value in keeping an expat in UK to do data analysis considering the considerable pool of qualified people that we have, with way better communication skills. He is not even a data scientist for God's sake!!!

But here he is, editing astronomy pictures in his tablet and buying another coffee maker for his wife.

It is truly disheartening to see this guy in action and then try to explain to a newcomer that SLB is all about meritocracy.

I downvoted the Blue Print comment because you can't bring back something that's never really been followed in the first place! Blue Print has only ever been used by HR and executives to discipline and terminate rank and file employees. If Blue Print was taken seriously we'd have a lot fewer executive and upper management cronies taking up space and oxygen in glass palaces.
