Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Still early days but anticipated take rate on VIP very low due to deterioration in job market due to COVID

Really have not seen the bottom of the job market especially in MI

Company has had a CIO for decades. Currently, Lemmer, previously Kleavorn, can't recall who was before that.

The "leadership team" just keeps getting more bloated. Farley added a CIO and CMO to the ranks today.

I hope today’s actions are daisy chained down the hierarchy, chopping half the Leadership levels.

If they’re going to cut they need to look at several years of performance reviews and eliminate the people who consistently under preform because even a stellar employee can have a single bad year. A person could have a single year of extreme family stress, or cancelled projects, or a manager they didn’t click with... they also need to look at processes that aren’t adding value and processes that are necessary but failing in their current format. Eliminating people based on the numbers from an outside firm or Input from a single managers input and giving all their work to the survivors has not improved Ford’s overall performance. Will ford do that? Probably not. They continue to look only at short term savings of dollars and cents and give no thought to improving quality and output within organizations.

20k is the number analyst are saying Ford needs to cut.

I really doubt that Ford could effectively cut 20k as they always let the fox guard the hen house.
Those who need to be cut are the ones devising the lay-off plan, and they protect themselves and others of their ilk.

For this reason Ford will perpetually have annual cuts of 2-3k employees.
Each cut followed by a hiring spree.

They would be better served to have 3 large, effective and permanent cuts of 5k. But there are too many empire builders and too many people milking the system at Ford for that to ever happen.

To make any real difference in profitability, 20,000 salary jobs need to be eliminated.

No but the counter to what you're saying is that those strongly considering the package will not want to return to the Ford "new world order" in any capacity, however that plays out. Right now the odds on favorite suggest a forced return of like 1-2 days per week, depending on your management team. The other thing to all you fence sitters is that an involuntary package may look very different and not be nearly as lucrative. Remember that Ford has a vested interest in people signing up voluntarily but could care less about those in an involuntary situation. Finally, I'm not sure the company will have the appetite to offer voluntaries again in the foreseeable future if the involuntary cuts are very deep next year like I think they will be. Something to the effect of sorry boys and girls but we only got 400 voluntary takers and need to eliminate 2000 (or 2000 more). Not out of the question in a change every 5 minutes environment.
