I'm still trying to figure out "why me" but I guess I will never know. So many senior people were let go. I guess we were just bigger targets on someone's spreadsheet. It still hurts but I am now trying to put this behind me. There are no comparable jobs locally so I guess it is time for figuring out at least how to get unemployment. Does anyone know if we have to wait until after we get our last paycheck? I never thought I would be considering something like this. I do hope all those VP's sleep well at night.

As someone who was let go many years back from RJ, I can certainly say that the grass is greener. It took several months to find another opportunity, and after one week at the new employer, I soon realized that RJ was really never a good organization once TJ turned over the reign, IT became UBS, and the business as a whole started changing. The pay at RJ was decent, but there is better. The training at RJ was OK, but not sufficient. The expectations were always work work with a false sense of growing with the organization, when in reality, a good company believes and supports work/life balance, trains properly, and cares about and helps you achieve growth. When let go, I had the same emotion many of you have, but looked at it as an opportunity to get out of the rut that I called a career place to work. Use your resources, former coworkers, LinkedIn, previous leadership at RJ that has moved on, friends, family, and recruiters. While it can be painful, you will eventually find that RJ never cared about you, but only the bottom line.
Have been following the postings here for almost 2 weeks and each day I see less of them, I guess life is moving on. Maybe I am not as strong as many of you but I still have so many feelings inside me, sometimes is doubt, sometimes is hope, sometimes is anger. I was laid off some 18 years ago and then found RJ a place where I worked had and gave my best. I am older now and have my doubts, I also believe in God and pray for all of us who are looking for guidance and strength.
The last paycheck we receive on 10/30 will include pay thru 10/15 plus any vacation you have accrued. Then sometime in November we will get our severance check minus some hefty deductions. then in December if you had at least a year of service on 9/30 you will qualify for ESOP and profit sharing and that will show up in your principal accounts before EOY.
I hear you, trying to figure out what's the next step in my life. After almost 2 decades the severance package will give me some time to see what's next but so far it has not been too easy. As someone mentioned looks lots of "good old hard working" folks were let go, it's sad to see.
Similar here, not easy after so many years of dedicated service. My mornings are not that easy but moving on little by little. As others have mentioned it could be a little bit scary with the current economic situation. Seems to me that so many good people were let go and don't understand why.
We will bounce back!
File for unemployment IMMEDIATELY. Do not wait. The clock starts ticking when you submit your application. There is no retroactive processing.

I too am trying to figure out "why me" after over two decades at RJ but I know it is time for me to move on. If anyone finds out info on unemployment, please share. It is definitely hard during these trying times. Take care everyone!
Hope you save some money to get the bills paid. It's a tough market trying to find a job. Not many companies are hiring.
