Thread regarding Optum layoffs

How is the job search going?

How are people doing on finding new jobs? Especially those who were laid off in the past several months? It's hard enough to land someplace decent in normal times when the job market is not pushed to its limits, but with the pandemic... I'm starting to worry that the task is impossible.

I’m was laid off and the market and opportunities were booming! I used my network and proactively and aggressively applied to positions of interest. In two months, I received three job offers- I landed with a great role and more $$. The saying when One door closes another opens was true. Best of luck to all! Keep the faith!

Lots of people got laid off . They were older than 50-60. It’s really hard to get job at that old age. They hire young bc they’re clueless and not hip to the jive

"All you need is a positive attitude, can do yankee spirit, and work hard ethic. Listen to those corporate cheerleaders And MSM who get paid tons To propagandize you. Group think. It’s great."

Ah, the American-hating troll is still here. You do realize that many other countries work pretty much the same way as the U.S. Right? Oh wait, that involves objective, rational thought.... Nevermind.

Laid-off at end of June. No offers, no interviews, no prospects. I am 64 years old so I don't have much hope. Severence about to run out. Unemployment about to end. My best bet is hopefully getting a part time job next year and collecting soc sec to be able to keep my home.

My last day at OptumRx was July 9th and just got a job offer last week with another PBM, $5000 more a year and a 10% signing bonus !!!
I was fun-employed for four and 1/2 months, but it felt like 40 months. I am sooooo glad I took advantage with the UHG career assist group-Lee, Hecht & Harrison. They were awesome and revised my resume like it was no body's business !!!
No doubt, it is a very tough time to find a job due to the pandemic. But nothing lasts forever, even a pandemic. Stay active and keep a positive attitude, reach out to those friends that always make you smile & laugh !! Do not give up !!!

Workers go on food stamps, and welfare health "care" and the executive are buying another yacht–sounds like us capitalism

To the person asking for assistance, hopefully you took advantage of the program offered to you when you were laid off (and assuming you were offered one, but I think everyone is). But your best chance at more assistance is going to be from your state unemployment office. This varies a lot by state but in my state, that office offers employment assistance, training programs, job fairs, etc. and is also the gateway to Medicaid and food stamps if you are at that point.

For health insurance, I found that an ACA plan cost less than half of what COBRA cost while I was unemployed.

I was a 31 laid off in June. Offer within 5 weeks with higher pay and now working with ABSOLUTELY more reasonable people!

Maybe ask the C suites and 'leaders' for a donation to help with being laid off? Many make 7,8 figures per year.

Took me 8 months and sometimes it felt hopeless. But I did end up with a higher salary. And now I have a boss that isn't a wicked witch. Win!

It all depends. If you're a low level 25$ /hour employee, versus a director, or VP. Those making very little, revolving doors, etc...are likely hired quickly. It's like a med assistant trying to get a job versus a doctor in a specialized field.

Received 2 offers in about 8 weeks of searching and interviewing. I did sent my resume for consideration to a lot of companies and it paid off. The job market is good right now. Use web based job sites and not recruiters.
