Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Culture conversations are out of touch!

If they want to talk about culture, stop with the psychological therapist junk. These are the culture talks we need:

  1. Forcing long term wfh people back in the office. Why? What reason do you have beyond your own paranoia about people not doing their job. Gloria.... you don't work not interact with any employee to know what’s going on! You want people to be stressed with commutes, up to 2 hours for some, to get on the phone and talk to teams/bosses out of state???????? How ridiculous and ancient are you?
  1. These ridiculous layoffs. You talk about stress? How about realizing that laying anthem people off means that some houses now have all incomes out of work? Spouses, significant others, roommates? Yet you are continuously hiring directors and vice presidents at huge salaries??? What is your thinking in saving money then??

Gloria, you are cruel, viscous, amoral, unconcerned about others’ well-being, ancient, stagnant, careless, narcissistic, and a 1%-er. One request...start giving a %#_{ about all lower end employees.

I feel bad for those of you who haven’t been RIF’ed yet. I was RIF’ed in 2019 after 15+ years and while it was extremely disappointing at the time, I could not be happier now. The useless meetings, the hypocrisy, the incompetent management, the constant stress of wondering when I would be next... all now in my past.

Anthem was a great place to work for a very long time, and I absolutely loved working from home. I met and worked with many exceptional people. But the last 2-3 years were difficult. Getting RIF’ed = I have my life back.

I wish I could upvote all of these comments a thousand times. The hypocrisy coming from on-high is reaching levels never before imaginable.

When a person has cancer, they do everything they can to eradicate it from their body. Anthem has a cancer near the top of its food chain, yet that cancer continues to be given more responsibilities and power. No way this ends well for all of us.

Regarding the ridiculousness of 2-hour commutes to get on phone calls with people out of state – what about commuting to get on phone calls with people out of the country?! Even more ludicrous. Yet, that's what leadership is fully committed to.

Regarding all the RIFs and offshoring – isn't Anthem supposed to be improving lives in the communities we serve? Aren't most of those communities the same ones where the majority of associates live? How does cutting benefits - and eventually jobs - improve lives in those communities? Or, am I missing something and Anthem actually sells a big chunk of commercial business in Hyderabad, India?

"...make sure you assume that it's with positive intent that we're asking you to do twice as much work in less time with less coworkers."

Also, make sure you assume positive intent as we take away your position and give it to Legato. In fact, please assume that our intent for doing that is to improve the health of all humanity, and not some other intent, like fattening our senior management bonus payments.
(Gee, I think I'm beginning to see the motivation behind these culture conversations.)

We all know it's a crazy stressful time for everyone, but make sure you assume that it's with positive intent that we're asking you to do twice as much work in less time with less coworkers.

I agree. Forget about trying to act like you care about others when she has and will be laying off thousands of associates. Forget about food insecurity and those without healthcare when you put thousands of your own employees in that situation. You can’t go on about diversity when all of IT and claims jobs are going to one country and one culture. You can’t talk about being positive unless it is in the context of you will positively cut us out from our jobs under the dark cover of “Work Place Strategy” or “Fast Forward.” Work Place Strategy was and is the code word for getting rid of associates, especially tenured ones. I get companies need to make money and cut costs but the hypocrisy and the lectures of telling us how we should feel, (ironically how is telling everyone to act or feel a certain way, a display of acceptance for diversity?!!) This is all about Gloria making more money. It is time for her to be the next seeking other opportunities. I expect to be gone in 2021 but I’d like to outlast her.
