Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Getting a job without degree?

Almost all companies say degree or equivalent experience on job postings! All a degree tells them is your good at learning, being that most college classes have almost nothing in them of direct value to the company. The truth is if your a good self learner out of high school, four years of related job experience probable has more value then a degree. Also people without degrees are cheaper which is a big factor.

You nailed it, @qexl+17ymDUhl. However, it seems to me that the biggest factor is that people without diplomas are cheaper.

Watching colleagues get laid off so the big 5 can make the books look good, earn their millions in bonuses while the rank & file can't get a raise. #EpicMoraleFail

Running a Fortune 500 company into the ground, and keeping your job. #Priceless

Ethical employer or not, that statement shows YOU have no ethics - won't do your job that you're paid for b/c you're discontent.. Find another job then, instead of taking it out on the customer

"perhaps you should focus on your job rather than posting your discontent here. I'm sure customers would appreciate your undivided attention"

Perhaps we will work for ethical leadership that values their employees!!! There is no opportunity for growth or a future as an employee today at WIN.

hvw+17YgLCDS — your comment is nasty. It appears you’re in desperate need of an afternoon with Miss Manners. Now move along.

@hvw. If you want to correct people on their grammar please make sure your grammar is correct. Example below. In your " marks it should have been "you're".

I take it "your" the one without a degree. Perhaps you should brush up on your grammar before you start applying. LOL.

Or you can be part of the good old boy system or the screw your way to the top and go places system. Seen it first hand, so if the posting says you need a degree its not always true. Seen someone with a ged and no experience move right up but they spent time with the right person and that is all that matters. So someone with all the experience can get passed over for someone willing to do what you wont or they know the right people to help them along. Nothing is fair at windstream where jobs are concerned.

Depends on the position also. If you are a really driven person you might do well in Sales, it's sink or swim. I have seen a few people come in with no experience into a customer service role and work through the ranks. If you plan on going into anything requiring certifications or compliances a degree maybe requires. If you are looking into a leadership or executive role an MBA might be needed.

I have seen it both ways here. Operations people moved to some other support role and failing. Sales people moved into support repair or IT without any experience and failing.

Seems the real tech power houses require degrees and don't cheap down on the pay. And also prefer 'good learners'. So taking this into context Windstream will never be a tech power house regardless of what the snake oil selling leadership states.

@hvw People type on the phone and such typos happen but that doesn’t mean they are illiterate
