Fear is an effective management method to get folks to work harder to avoid being laid off. You will take on the work of others. This is all planned to whip the employees into submission. The shareholders demand a return of their investment.
Work hard and long hours. Work while on vacation. Praise your senior leaders and maybe they will keep you. Play the game while you look for another job. And only look for non public companies.

This practice regularly occurred in the medical records department I worked in. Once you became submissive you were golden. Keep head down and never speak up to defend yourself.
Yup!!! if you work in a capitalist free for all then be expected to be laid off while your "leaders" buy another mansion. it was all about profits. not about quality-the quality schtick was part of the US corporate propaganda.
