Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Will layoffs ever stop?

I'm so, so, so tired of learning about new layoffs every other month. Ffs, just stop! This is mentally exhausting! You want to lay people off? Fine! Do it and be done with it. Grow a pair and just have one huge round so that the rest of us can stop worrying and be able to properly focus on our jobs. Give us some peace of mind, please!

Why are foreigners taking American jobs? Were there laws to protect legal US people - citizens?

There is no end to these lay off. The phillipines has a ton of cheap labor( except when it comes to executive positions) and if biden given amnesty 11 millions plus illegals then they might bring some jobs back to the USA..... But ya the current middle is being given the shaft....

It was sad because we had old folks boomers etc that worked so hard and then the call came to meet on friday. they told us we had to pack up in the afternoon, turn in the badges, etc. and leave. that was it. some people had 10,20,+ years there, didnt matter. they didnt care about hard work or loyality. who know where they are now. but that company still exists to profiteer off of the disgusting US "health" "care" for profit business model.

It was the bottom of the barrel. Folks with few to zero options, they need to eat, get poor health care, maybe a joke 'retirement' program, and a car to go back and forth....So they put on the fake smile, the fake happyiness to the job, and do the corporate dance until they're gonzo voluntarily or not.

"They hate the work but love the pay and maximizing that pay to even more money. It is all about money. Money for company. Money for them. And perhaps no money for you."

That was the US empire. Corporations own your rear. We're just debt and tax slaves hamster wheeling into oblivion. Many were psychopaths who had NO problem cutting you because money was their god. Empty and soulless, they were modern day slaves who's only purpose was profit for their shareholders and quarterly earnings blather. usa, usa

The folks at the top get a number they need to reach. Perhaps they need to cut xx million dollars. Then they spend months and months figuring out who stays and who goes. I know, I see it in action. To make cuts like this you cannot be soft. That is why they hire people that can do this without hesitation. If they do not cut, they get cut. The VP and Staff VP get beat up everyday by the SVP. The pressure is enormous. I have seen it. They work 16 hours a day. Even on vacation. There is no life. It is all work all the time. And since they work all the time, they expect you to work just as hard. You cannot reason with these folks. They hate the work but love the pay and maximizing that pay to even more money. It is all about money. Money for company. Money for them. And perhaps no money for you.

The layoffs with continue as each healthplan will compete on who has the lowest payroll costs. If one healthplan can do the same work with less people that puts pressure on your healthplan to do the same. Since investors like to put more money in lean plans.

Sort of like that game Name that Tune. I can name that song in 6 notes. Then the other contestant says I can name that song in 4 notes. Same thing, I can run my healthplan with 5 percent less employees. Now, the other healthplan can try to cut 6 percent less employees. Lean and Mean.

Yes, it is a contest. And if your plan wins, you lose. And the folks that survive lose too since they do double the work. But your VP is going to get a hell of a bonus. Have to pay that huge docking fees for their boat. And those million dollar homes have huge property taxes. And Mortons is not cheap. Keep your VP happy since he has a lot of bills to pay to keep his standard of living up. So come on and work hard because someone will benefit. Maybe you might get a new coffee mug or mouse pad.

Was on a call today with bunch of folks. One of them mentioned if this particular job was moving out to another department. It was my job. I guess they thought I was told. There was silence at first. Then they said they are just looking at the work I do from another department as a double check. Seems based on the conversation that I have at least until the end of the year but I be gone in January. Now that is stupid. Well at least I will not be surprised. By the way, the other department that will do my work is buried with a ton of work. Good luck

Snakes lurk in private meetings cherry-picking who to keep. Transfers are planned for January already with conditions of discretion until then.
How betrayed will those we’ve worked with feel when the news is finally shared with everyone?
I’ve never felt so morally conflicted since working here.
Start preparing now.

Fear is an effective management method to get folks to work harder to avoid being laid off. You will take on the work of others. This is all planned to whip the employees into submission. The shareholders demand a return of their investment.
Work hard and long hours. Work while on vacation. Praise your senior leaders and maybe they will keep you. Play the game while you look for another job. And only look for non public companies.

What? You don't believe them when they say after each layoff that NOW they are right-sized to meet business goals? Where's your trust in the process? (And yes... I'm totally joking.)
