Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Can't be re-hired due to severance

I recently was hired back to a different claims job that I was laid off from. Now since my term date has passed they are requiring back ground check. However they will not do the background check until I pay back my severance. The issue is I have not received my severance. When telling them this they still say the amount needs to be paid back before they will finalize my re-hire and do the background check. I contacted HR and told this is correct but could not give me the status of my severance.

So now I cannot complete my rehire until I pay back severance that I have not received. And everyone just seems to be shrugging. Is this company for real? Why did I even bother trying to come back to this company?

This is what you do if you want this resolved. Call HR today. If no call back or you get a non answer, you politely advise that you will follow up for an answer tomorrow. When tomorrow comes and you still don't have an answer your polite follow up changes to , "I will check back later today." You go from calling 1x/day to 2x/day then to 3x/day and every time you call you remind them the last time you called and when your future call will be. After a week of this, add an email reiterating your attempts, list the dates and times of your call. Keep the email thread and keep adding to it. If you get pushed off to someone else, you just add them to the thread so they see the history. Always be polite and make sure you make the person on the other end your friend so they feel that they are advocating for you. How many of you claims adjusters had an insured/clmt that bugged the c-ap out of you until their issue was resolved? How much faster did you work to do it so they would stop bugging you? Squeaky wheel peeps, squeaky wheel.

Why in God’s name would you even consider going back to work for a company that has proven over and over that they don’t care about you? Take the severance and move on.

I understand why you went back. Because you have a family to feed and there aren't enough jobs out there to be grabbed. Sometimes you do what you gotta do to survive. Don't give up and good luck!!!

I gotta feeling Allstate’s restructure is going to k–l the company and the name brand. As a former employee I can truly say that this corporate culture at Allstate is toxic they would without a doubt cut your throat for a penny. RUN if you still can is my advice

Wouldn't it be wonderful if they used some smarts and just stopped payment on the severance and move forward in the re-hire? It's always pomp and circumstance with Allstate. If you can get from A to D without going through B and C, that's a no-no even thought it's the same result. Just a wasteful company and I'm glad it's all behind me. I would keep pressing HR. Hell, maybe even place a call to the ivory tower and speak with a higher-up there.

Twilight Zone of chaos, endless corporate thuggery cutting everybody off at the knees. They have everyone over a barrel full of lies and deceit. God help our employees make the right choices. The time to strike back at this abhorrent behavior is getting closer. A lesson to be learned from this nightmare.
