We've had an co-worker leave and the managers have been keeping it a secret. Everyone is freaking out because we suspect it's because of COVID.

What if someone was positive "went on vacation," no one was told and came back a couple of weeks later like nothing was wrong?
I can remember how bad the customers were. Children picked their noses and touched the books. Adults did the same and sneezed without covering their mouths. Then the dirty men would hang over the back of the registers and leer at the booksellers. Can’t imagine what is going on now.
They'd pass it around to everyone and the whole store would be sick throughout the season. And now that we're even more short-staffed, you can bet many of us will be getting the Corona.
And you think BN will take care of you? Pay you when you’re out sick? Hold your job ?
You’ll be replace by day 2 of your quarantine.
Under HIPA laws ,they can’t reveal a coworker’s illness. But , morally you have a right to know if you’ve been in contact with an infected individual.
I'm not surprised, I remember managers being told they better not call out, OR ELSE!

You are risking your health anywhere there are groups of people. And being inside a store with poor ventilation is an invitation for Covid to spread. You can tell by all the dust, that the stores are great breeding grounds for all viruses!
Happy Holidays!!
If the bookseller tests positive, the company should immediately close the store and send everybody working there in for testing. I haven't worked at BN for a couple years now (and far happier than when I left), but I would expect that this would be the policy. If it isn't, then that speaks volumes about BN these days.
