Thread regarding Pearson PLC layoffs

Integrating what we just tore apart

TBs announcement today was particularly head-shaking. “We’ve decided to integrate the portfolio-aligned content strategy teams with their product management counterparts into a single organization.” Give me a second to dig up that oldish announcement where he said they were splitting the portfolio team for the exact same reason. 2018 I believe?

Replying to why layoffs weren’t mentioned. No one cares.

Hostage videos of "why we love Pearson"?

Isn't that the truth, (thankfully) never had to reapply for my position and understood why folks who have families needed too comply. I'm out now, but what an odd world Pearson was/is that believing in an ethos of Always Learning actually means being in denial of the state of the company and industry you're involved in. Wondering if Yellow Pages or Blockbuster employees went through similar steps? Yellow Pages, we're connecting millions of American's to each other at the tips of their fingertips, rah-rah-rah! Pay no attention to Google over there, it's too slow with a 55.9k dial up modem and your AOL cdrom, it'll never take off.....

I remember at one point one department remaining unnamed asked me to record a rah rah video on Pearson. Eventually sent me a script.
It was SO awkward to do, but I told them no. Man...am I so glad that I went with my gut & principles and declined even though it kind of left me on an island alone.

Also—how did more layoffs last week in NA HE go completely unmentioned on this site?!

Replying to the "These groups" comment, I wonder if upper management still has the hostage videos of "why we love Pearson"? They can use those to compare who to keep and who to bounce to the curb this round. De Ja Vu all over again isn't progress in my opinion.

No other explanation other than the leaders at this company are 100% clueless. It’s hilarious.
I don’t think I’d hire anyone over the DM level to run a lemonade stand in my front yard, let alone a failing billion dollar business.

Love how they spew the fact that “Pearson’s cash to debt ration” is better than that of their competitors as they continually FAIL. I guess whatever helps you sleep at night!

These groups were separated in early 2019. With this announcement, it appears that breaking them up was simply an excuse to get rid of a ton of people. The content group was never taken very seriously, as the company has ceased to really care much about content at this point. I wonder how many people will be let go with this move!

Yep. Nothing says progress and growth like taking steps backwards to "the way it was". Although putting the ship back together where KC pulled it apart might not be the worst idea... Can't wait to bundle my A&P Lab books too. Now, back to Friday tracking....
