Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Well there goes another $4.5m

In addition to whatever they gave NAACP/EJI earlier this year, they just announced another $4.5m donation out the door.

Assuming half of employees are in US, that's $225/person they could've given to employees instead. Would you rather have $225 in your pocket or an email about how AIG Foundation is being generous to others?

I get the sentiments of this post, but I’m pretty sure this money was already announced (at the 4Q town hall I think earlier this year??). The letter was just an update of who got the money. Every company does charity work. Sheesh.

Virtue signaling? almost like they are hiding something. Wait a minute!

If they want to be generous, just give to employees and let employees chose how to spend it.

Yes. One of AIG's core values is virtue signaling.

WOW, it looks like AIG has exceptionally generous clients from which they divert their premium for their employees' goodwill! This only adds financial pressure to costs (YOU!). Keep in mind the only thing AIG is doing right now is forcing entrepreneurs out towards startups (BYE BYE VALIDUS EXECS)! The capital markets are wide open to finance them, and 10 years from now the only AIG will be writing is its obituary.

Agreed, philanthropy is a great endeavor (and a writeoff) but if funds can be used to minimize layoffs during this challenging time in world history, there should be an impied duty of our leadership team to use internally first. Too many examples of this company using resouces externally rather than for employees. Saw an article about our legal staff taking time to provide legal services to community. Have they ever done the same fpr employees? There are employees who don't necessarily have a lot of resources who could use assistance too. Too much outreach insead of "in"reach.

Dunno about you guys but I'll take $225 in my pocket over an email from senior execs talking about how generous AIG is... those emails don't pay the bills.

This is BD course 101. Be generous with AIG money to prove you are not a fraud.

This donation will not impact executives in any way, but it probably will be spread across worker sti.

Anything to keep eyes off the exec comp packages and lack of results.

Here’s a bunch of money just don’t look at our executive org chart. Nothing to see there!

We really do care about diversity, but only below pay grade 25.
