Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Meanwhile in Cupertino

  • Apple kicked off its transition away from Intel Corp. chips today by revealing the first Mac computers with a main processor designed in-house by Apple
  • Announced a new MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini with new Apple M1 processors at its virtual “One More Thing” event today.
  • The launch shows Apple’s confidence in its custom processors, as well as doubts about Intel’s computer chip road map
  • Apple said in June that the final switch from Intel will take two years
  • Apple has less than 10% of the market for personal computers, so the direct impact on Intel sales may be limited.
  • However, the change highlights a crisis engulfing the world’s largest chipmaker. It has delayed a new manufacturing process, giving rivals a chance to catch up

I think Intel should stop fighting back they wont be the same as decade before. Intel should work with AMD they are x86 and Share/sell fabs for AMD. Intel SHOULD RETIRE NOW

One thing to observe is Apple does not have a Design center in India. Wonder if that's a factor for their impressive execution of projects.

Dont worry. Once we hit the diversity goals we will get more competitive. Have been hearing this for the past few years. Nothing happened

Apple's market cap is 10x that of Intel's. It's inevitable that it would be able to invest in and accomplish more than what Intel can. Intel is a small player now. It's time to stop all the infighting and work together to fight for Intel's survival.

All Intel employees are home sleeping while TSMC, Samsung and Apple is hard at work. Bunch of useless people work there. Lazy asses everywhere.

@axa - No, it is truth. Intel will go down fast like what happened to blackberry after iPhone launch.

Even though Apple has 10% market share for personal computers, Apple buys premium skews(MacBook pro $300 cpu vs $100 in regular $400 PC) so revenue impact would be in range of 15-20%. Intel is in huge trouble. Plus leftover 4g modem revenue will disappear by end of next year.
