Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

How many aircraft they plan to build a month?

They will keep laying off employees until they get down to the number they need to build the number of airplanes they plan to build a month, which isn’t going to be very many.

Then one year or two years from now they’ll try to hire most of them back when air travel gets back to normal. I expect many of them to change career paths if they can given how unstable the aerospace industry is and particularly Boeing.

At Everett they are going from 15 a month total to 5. You do the math on how many are going to go

A young Engineer out of school in a normal economy would have more than one job offer in different industries. Given that, why would you stay in aerospace industry given the downturn expected? If you’ve been hired in the last couple years why would you stay when you still have an opportunity to change industries?

Facebook Google Twitter is just an example of tech industries. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of companies like them who hire software developers and engineers.

Haha try getting hired at google FB or twitter! So what did you do at your old job? “Well sir I installed airplane seats... Oh I made 37 bucks an hour so I would like to start at 40 here.”

You know a lot of grocery store employees with engineering degree’s or airframe licenses?

Compare the aerospace industry to tech industries. When’s the last time you heard Google Facebook Twitter was having a large layoff? Do you think that might impact the recruiting

The OP has not been at Boeing very long if at all.

Union members know they cant get a job making this kind of money with their education. They also know if they go somewhere else, they won't have a union to protect them from being lazy. Add to that that most local employers won't hire a Boeing union employee because the employers know that as soon as they are called back to Boeng, they will leave. Employers won't waste their time.

No, they won't go ANYWHERE. They will be sitting at home waiting. Boeing knows this all too well.

Boeing is cyclic. If you want stability go work at the grocery store.
