30 days notice, that's standard practice everywhere else you big dope! Typically they wont wait the full 30 to conduct the exit interview and show you off the property.

If he was non Union then they treated him well and he had a chance to look for something else, many just come in and they say bend over, here it comes, there's the door these days.
Union they have to give you 90 days to look for another job internally before you are "SURPLUSED" per most the IBEW and CWA contracts.
